In response to at least one comment....

It isn't just the televangelists that are prone to hypocrisy. My husband has noticed that some lower-level leaders (such as assistant pastors) have trouble living up to their professed values as well. For example, one separatist Baptist of his acquaintance had a great deal of trouble finding work that paid enough to support his family, while living in a subculture that insisted that the man had to be either the primary or the sole support of the family while the woman's primary or sole task was... One is not allowed to believe that something is true

I admit that I borrowed the title shamelessly from Constance Cumbey, who is on record as saying something very similar, regarding religion. She feels strongly that when the New Age movement institutes a one-world religion and forces ordinary citizens (through various means) to join that religion, people will no longer be allowed to believe that their former religion is ultimately true and that other religions are ultimately at least partially wrong. Back up the truck, again

A village official dropped by this morning, offering us a turkey, courtesy of UPS. (UPS has a sorting facility nearby, and according to the box, they apparently donated the turkey.) This village official implicitly told me that it was a part of the food basket we got yesterday, saying in so many words that they forgot to drop it off at that time.
