Black Holes

I went to the Scienceworks at Melbourne in Spotswood on Monday and we had a great time. A GF who has two kids also went and we had FUN. We went to the Astronomy Planetarium and saw something on Black Holes which inspired this poem. Black Holes Beware black hollows Swirling deep down in inner space Their edges set to swallow Stray hopes, dreams, places Of happiness deep within Shining dust fingers reach out A milky thread bleeds off the centre ring A cosmic grieving brings doubts To draw you thin... Morning Breaks

Morning breaks There is a dry sharpness To the air A clearer focus Birds’ orchestral conversations Ping pong across the garden Bouncing between the leaves Of the massive fig tree Its gnarled fingers rest against the roof tiles, Limbs twist and snake up Where birds delight in the shade Of broad leaves Fruit clings in clusters Spoiled offerings are a rotten harvest Even the birds, bats and possums Decline in favour Of peaches hanging sweet Down by the garden shed - A drunkard leaning into the... Gearing up for the second Megilla reading of Purim

We have to hear the Megilla twice on Purim. The first time was last night and the second time is sometime during the day today. We also have to give gifts of food to some people and it must be a person of the same gender as yourself other wise you have not fulfilled the mitzvah. Tou should also give tzedaka or charity and have a feast. The school has a parade at about ten o'clock and we have the wedding plus I have to get to my online course for the first chat today either between 2 and 3 pm or... Sign in to see full entry.

The Fast is over and we heard the Megilla for the first time tonight

There is the Purim parade tomorrow and the giving of Mishloch Manot - gifts of food to people and the giving of Charity as well as the mitzveh to make a feast. We are going down to Lollipops in a neighbouring suburb and there will be a costume contest and lots of fun things for the kids to do. We also have a (wedding) huppa to go to as well. A friend has her daughter getting married on Purim. It is a bit unusual and Hassidim would not get married on Purim for many reasons but they are Sephardi... Sign in to see full entry.

Today is Tanit Ester the fast of Ester

and we are fasting to commemorate the Persian Queen who made a great personal sacrifice for her people. She was Jewish and the Migillat Ester (book of Ester) tells her story and that of her uncle and as well her husband Mordechai in Persia many centuries hence. She saved the Jews of Persia when a wicked vizer or advisor Haman tried to destroy or eradicate them. Hitler was a modern day version of Haman. I always think of Hitler when we read the Migillat Ester in shule and stamp our feet to erase... Sign in to see full entry.

What is a Kippa?

Someone confused a kippa with a diaper (not mentioning any names here in order not to shame) and so I thought that it would be a great idea for a post - to explain what a kippa is and try and explain how we can often tell a lot about the person and level of religious observance and outlook from the kippa he wears. Now we should not generalise because human beings are all different and do surprise you. A kippa looks like this! But there is no hard and fast rule as kippas come in many shapes and... I posted this in the wrong section, so sorry for the duplicate post...

Well it was a restful and interesting Shabbat We stayed home instead of going to my friends' house for Friday night. I tried to ring her but I was so tired and strung out from the week I just wanted to be at home so we could roll upstairs into bed as soon as we had finished the Birchat Mazon (after meal blessings). Although after a good Friday night meal a walk is probably the best thing to aid digestion. My son is watching Eight Below. It is one of his favourit movies as it is about these eight... I have made up my program which incorporates

technology with good old fashioned learning and I am using lots of reinforcement and revision to help him. Kids with learning difficulties do not need to be told that they are stupid. I actually do not think he has that much of a learning difficulty as I can see that if you take the time and have the strength to set boundaries he will respond positively. Trouble is there are a lot of lazy teachers around who feel that it is easier to avoid the 'harder to teach' kids. Kids who are a bit feisty in... Sign in to see full entry.

Monkey business which I have swiped from another blog!

I read this and wished for a husband to help me keep a pet monkey. It sounds like fun and he can have his scrotum regularly pierced by darling monkey's steel fingers. YOOWIE!! PEOPLE say Americans are nuts and then along comes a piece that shows exactly how sane they are. It’s from The New York Times, and it’s about people who keep monkeys. It’s very long but here are some highlights: * Seven year old Higgins is a baboon who has a heated house with digital TV. His favourite program is Walker,... Sign in to see full entry.

It is interesting how people want bad news of a person

and actively try to instigate that bad news through vicious rumours. I had a phone call from some one last night and among other things they told me some of the rumours that are flying around our community. 1. My ex husband is a Muslim - Not true. He believed in G-d as far as I know although his mother was a Christian and his father a Pagan or believer in native religion of the Beni people of Nigeria 2. I have secretly converted to Muslim religion, definitely NOT true. That one made me laugh.... Sign in to see full entry.
