It must be so expensive and abeit frightening to be a woman in our modern society who shows a lot of the fleshy parts of the body. You do have to keep those parts of the body in tip top condition. Sort of like having a Rolls Royce car, looks good, but the maintenance bill on it is astronomical. Me, I prefer a Toyota because it gets you from A to B, parts are cheap and they are tough cars that run on the smell of an oil rag. (So long as you don't buy the big 6 cylinder landcruiser or its... Saying 'Please' and 'Thank you.'

As kids it was expected of us from a really early age. The same as calling people older than us by a generation, Mr and Mrs or Miss, or standing up on trams and buses for older people or pregnant women especially and standing back from doors etc to let people through. We have become a very selfish society and the kids are confused about a lot of things. My friend's six year old and her brother were dropped off to spend some time with us while their Mum has some time out for herself. C was... Sign in to see full entry.

Sexualisation of Kids' clothing

This may not worry some people in today's world but it worries me for reasons of modesty which may not be an issue for many people. Today I bought some new shoes for my son at our favourite Birkenstock shop run by an Israeli gentleman. He had a sale on. There were these great sandals and I thought the pattern was flowers and the like but blue and some other colours - not too girly or boyish but sort of a unisex shoe for the primary and lower primary at that. It was the OT Cathy who drew my... Sign in to see full entry.

Reading Stories

I read the same story with additions to make it more exciting. Although they often enjoy the repetition and just hearing it again, you can read the same story with endless variations of character, theme and conversations. Sign in to see full entry.

Smells

Smells Smells are swell, so thinks my little son. He picks flowers on our daily walks With the neighbour and her daughter 'De lish ious!' He tells me, Scenting newly baked cakes Oven fresh. ‘Big, bad smells’ Might be the stench of fresh faeces, Gifts of passing dogs Laid neatly on the nature strip, or the toilet recently vacated or an orange over ripe in a fruit bowl. In kinder he learnt to check Whether he'd wiped clean enough With the ‘finger swipe to nose check’ I won't give more details Than... Sign in to see full entry.

Wiggley Teeth

Finger on the tooth Wobble, Wobble It leans a drunken sailor Whose job is done. Retirement is Beckoning. Wobble, wobble Finger on the tooth Its replacement awaits impatiently pushing, an eager recruit whose service will be a lifetime long. Sign in to see full entry.

My Baby boy is getting his second teeth and he is only 5 and 8 months

I looked at Nir's mouth on the weekend as he seems to be always fiddling with his mouth or having something in it. He has a tooth on the bottom behind his milk teeth. The tooth in front is wiggly a bit and sore so he tells me. It is another milestone. A sign of him growing up and while it is exciting there is a bitter sweetness to it as I know he is growing and growing. and he will become more and more that independent sweet little boy and finally a man. Thank G-d for that too. Someone told me... Sign in to see full entry.

Ashes to dust … Enclosed in a metal box You are still Dust at the bottom Of a cupboard They put you in. Reminiscent of ashes From another era Human bones scattered on Now sacred soil in Europe. Only they did not choose, And you did. Why you did. I will never know. Did they tell you? It is cheaper and neater To be so disposed. They tell me You didn’t want a rock Over your head When you were dead Or to be Buried in the soil’s embrace. I wonder what you would say Now with no resting place Marked to... The trouble with dishwashers...

Some people think dishwashers are sent from heaven to help save them time. I think they are a waste of time and resources like water and etc. Why? Because you have to wash the dishes or rinse them, before you put them in the machine. Even then they often don't come out as clean as I would like. It annoys me that we are using double lots of water to wash a few dishes that could be washed in a sink full of hot soapy water and then put into a rack to dry. That is another thing if you think about... Sign in to see full entry.

A Call to Dad

He has been asking About his Dad, 'Where is my Daddy?' Because he too wants a Daddy Who will ask him About his day On a regular basis To tell him That the bullies Who tease him Because his skin is darker Than theirs Are weak people Who only see the outside Of a person They can not see the inner light Beaming through through Windows to his soul Twin dark pools reflect on people's words And actions He is love without guile He wants friends Loves strangers Just because they are people He doesn't...
