Karma is another of those words that slips and slides through our understanding in a variety of interpretations. Most generally it seems to be translated as Fate or Doom. To modern ears, Doom is a grim word, implying death and disaster. Originally, though, it meant pretty much the same as Fate: the path ordained for a person by the inteventions of Divine notice.
