Town Markets

One thing I really like about Europe and Germany is the little markets that pop up on Saturday mornings and quite often on Wednesday as well. They used to be owned and operated by the producers themselves but, nowadays, they are mainly "manned" by sales-persons, although once in while you can find... Sign in to see full entry.

"Communal" transport

There is a strange and mysterious little phenomenon in the public transport in "my part" of Germany. I use public transport regularly to go to... well, just about everywhere (we decided on arriving here that we didn't want the aggravation of owning a car in Germany) and I have to say that, all in... Wheelchairs and access

I little while ago I wrote a blog about Notre Dame and someone asked me if there was a wheelchair access. This made me started to think about wheelchairs and access to historical monuments. In Germany, at least in my part of it, they try quite hard to "incorporate" handicapped people in the cities.... Sign in to see full entry.

Finding the little things of life

How the little things of life that we take for granted can be difficult to find elsewhere than at home. For example: aluminum plates or pie shells, you know, the ones we use to make pies in. I spent all morning looking everywhere to find some. I thought that the grocery stores will have some. Nope.... Sign in to see full entry.

Horror of Notre Dame (cont'd)

We also went to Notre Dame and.... And this queue was just for those of us who wanted to climb the many steps of the many stairs to the roof of the cathedral (they can admit only a limited number of people at any time up there, thus, a line to get in). By the way, all museums in France are free for... Sign in to see full entry.

The Horror of Notre Dame de Paris!

The biggest advantage of traveling in winter (northern hemisphere, of course) is that there are a lot less tourists than in summer. Specially in a place like Paris where queues tend to be kilometres long! Not so in winter: we didn't have to wait at the Louvre or at the Eiffel Tour to get in. It's... Sign in to see full entry.

Craftsman and Art

One good thing about a city such as Florence is that, eventhough they have great Museums, you do not have to visit them to see Art and Masterpieces. With just a stroll in the old city you'll discover hundred of paintings and sculptures, on the walls, in the windows or in courtyards. Such beautiful... Sign in to see full entry.

Toujours Florence...

A must while in Florence is to visit the Uffizi Museum. It is not considered a big Museum, nothing like the huge Louvre in Paris, but none the less, a very important one. Important because there is in this Museum an exceptionel collection of early to late Italian Renaissance paintings by the Masters... Sign in to see full entry.

Florence and her beautiful men....

Everywhere you look you're sure to see one, at least one, more often two, three, four or more. I'm talking about men, Italian well dress, impeccably shaved, heaven smelling, gorgeous men. I know, I know, it sounds like propaganda or déjà vue, but it's true: I have seen more good looking men in... Sign in to see full entry.
