Neckarsteinach-Precious Stone of the Neckar

I'm back to my old self again and ready to bring you with me to visit Neckarsteinach. It is quite a sight the first time you see it, or rather, them, as there are four old castles guarding the narrow ridge overlooking the river Neckar and the town itself. Four old "Burgen" as they call them here... Sign in to see full entry.

Nobel Prize

I was supposed to write about Neckarsteinach today but I just saw something on CBC TV website (Rick Mercer's Rants) that infuriated me so much that I must talk about it. Sorry. I really realised how long I have been gone from home this morning when someone had to sent me to this website to discover... Sign in to see full entry.

The four jewels of the Neckar

Along the Neckar river, where I live, there are four small cities that are considered the four jewels, or the four pearls, of the Neckar. The Neckar itself is a rather long and winding river, going from Stuttgart to Mannhein, to meet with the Rhine. Bad Wimpfen (previous blog) is also along the... Sign in to see full entry.

New look on Bad Wimpfen

I went back to Bad Wimpfen today and I could barely recognise it. Without all the Weihnachtsmarkt kiosks and the crowd the old medieval city look really different. Nicer in a way, more room to walk and to look at all the beautiful old buildings. We took the regional train to go and we missed the... Sign in to see full entry.

Nierestein-Part II

We went to the clinic today and... Good news! Although he has a stone in one kidney, it seems that this one is not moving for the moment. It was another small stone(s) that passed "down" and irritated the "pipes". The X-rays were conclusive: there is no other stone (at the moment) in the "pipes" or... Sign in to see full entry.

German Schnitzels

As they say, if you can beat them, join them! So, I've started cooking German style. I bought the proper meat for schnitzel (it is written on the package!), the proper breadcrumbs (again, written on the package) and I even follow the recipe (that's rather rare for me). By the way, Schnitzel is the... Sign in to see full entry.

Acts of Kindness

German can be so nice some time! They are well known for their honesty (every year the government end out with more money from the income taxes than was anticipated) but do you know how friendy they can be? I experienced it once again this morning: I had a bit of time before my German class started... Sign in to see full entry.

My Manns Nierestein

I've got a call from my Mann; he left for the office after seeing the doc! That was fast! He had his appointment at noon and was at the University by 1h00pm! He told me that they have echography(ultrasound) there at the clinic and X-rays! The doc. speaks good english, is in his early forties and... Sign in to see full entry.

Brand New Bike!

Well, I've done it: I finally sold my son's "old" (3 years old) mountain bike for something more, hem, comfortable. I've been riding his "very good Rocky Mountain bike with Shimano gears etc." since we arrived in Germany and I've decided that, eventhough it IS a good bike, I'm no mountain biker! I... Health Care in Germany

My Mann believes that he has a kidneystone once again. He had one some four or five years ago, and, although this time it doesn't seem as painful as the first one, he gets tinge(?) in the lower belly every few minutes. I remember very well the first episode of kidneystone and it was not plaisant at... Sign in to see full entry.
