Palouse: Hills and Hollows

The Palouse Hills are a landform created by windblown glacial silts that have, over the ages, covered the volcanic surface of the land in several hundred feet of wonderfully fine topsoil. Many of these hills and hollows are etched with ploughed furrows, brown, green, yellow and gold. New York's Central Park Zoo

This is some kind of kingfisher, one of the first birds that caught my attention--and vice versa--in the Central Park Zoo aviary. It's not all concrete, glass and steel standing there all businesslike--

This city that has been building since the 1600s is the historical architect's dreamland. I love the fanciful, beautiful and sometimes grotesque ornamentation of the buildings. Portland, yes no? Some open-ended pondering...

Husband is off to Portland for a fencing tournament this weekend--thinking I might go along, and head out to the coast, see if the sea lions are still basking on the Astoria piers...
