Can anyone tell me what this petty little blossoming tree is?

They are a distinctly purpler pink than the cherry blossoms, and quite a different shaped flower, too. They are blooming all around Maryland, and I saw a lot of them in New York, as well. It's really spring in Maryland!

When I left home, there was a 2-inch blanket of snow on the world... But though it is a bit chilly and moist, spring has definitely come to Maryland! Meet Zoe Rose

My granddaughter, age 5: The little puppy--I think it's a bear, but grandma's opinions need not always be expressed when not asked for--was created the same morning,in a sort of plastic mechanism called 'The Fluffer' so had to go along on all expeditions for a while. Cool with crackin' big thunder showers!

That is spring in Silver Spring, Maryland so far... though it is supposed to be clearing tomorrow, and better still on Thursday when I head for NYC.
