*Scowl...*

The trip has come to a conclusion, I am home again and enjoying the warmth of early summer with its long, long days... I notice considerably more humidity than I remember being usual, and the air is more smelly--not flowery, just full of smells of all sorts, where the NZ air seemed crisp and clear,... One... more... thing...

...and I'm sure I can still zip it shut...! I have packed for the trip home, and I tell you it is a monster, that big old suitcase, even after I packed the heaviest rocks in the briefcase to spread the weight a bit. (I get 100 lbs in 2 pieces, or 70lbs in one piece.) Getting the big one up the... Sign in to see full entry.

G'day, Mate!

Back in my daughter's house after three days in Sydney, Australia! A whirlwind trip that included a jaunt up to the Blue Mountains, where we stopped at Echo Point and the Three Sisters, and hiked a most peculiar trail that was made of stone, puddles and steep stairs; a stroll through the Botanic... Cape Palliser

It's the south-most shoreline of New Zealand's North Island, and it's where we went today. About 2 hours from Wellington, over mountains (the Remutaka range) and past sheep in their pastures, and cows for some reason blocking the roads... (Yes, yes, there will be pictures...) Finally we saw the... Sign in to see full entry.

Hold out for the D/SLR, Naut!

Yesterday we drove up the west coast to Queen Elizabeth Park, a wide grassland bordering the Tasman Sea. It was a lovely afternoon! Sunny, only a few distant clouds, and Kapiti Island visible a few miles over the water. It was when I got out of the car, I realized I had left my camera on the desk at... Sign in to see full entry.

another swell day on the edge of the Tasman Sea

The wind got up again yesterday, and we drove out around the waterfront. I took pictures--again, they have to wait for hosting and posting until I am home again, due to the monthly bandwidth limits here. So I had to really look with my writer's eyes, as well as photographer's. On this day of gale... Sign in to see full entry.

I've got such a yarn for you!

Really, a wool string, a yarn. A few years ago, a couple of New Zealanders had a farm that was in decline. They looked around at all those that had turned into symmetrical pine forests--just another crop--and didn't want that. They invested in some rare, grey sheep. They got busy, did a lot of... Saw stars last night...

Really--stars! The Milky Way is brilliant over my daughter's home, but often not visible because of cloud cover. New Zealand's Maori name means Island of the Long White Cloud, so named by a chief's wife on their approach from the sea in large outrigger canoes that had travelled miraculous distances... Dogs again, and horses

This morning I looked out over the bay and thought it was a misty morning. It was, in fact, a rainy morning, with gusty winds, which would not have mattered so much but for the fact that today was also the day of the agility championship dog trials, and these, it seems, are always held outdoors.... sorting LOTR from NZ

Sorry to have been away from the keyboard so long... It was the 4 day road trip, then all day yesterday at TePapa, the natural history and art museum in Wellington, and coming home feeling... shall we say, gastrically unsettled...? Lord of the Rings is a part of me, has been since I first visited... Sign in to see full entry.
