Because they demolished the one I grew up in down to the concrete foundations to put it here. It was mine, I tell you...
I can never again weigh in on the jupiter scales, or walk the glowing blacklight corridor across the landscape of the moon, or ride in the tiny elevator to the offices in the basement that was called the Planetarium Thrill Ride because you never knew if it would get stuck part way...
The old patchwork heavens of the starshow are gone, and the art deco trimmings... connections with childhood, places I'd have loved to show my grandkids... And especially, the little room between the public halls and the sky dome where there were grey metal cabinets and consoles with toggles,buttons and switches that had those plastic dyno-lables saying "SOLAR FLARE" "LUNAR PHASES" "SUPER NOVA" as if it was God's control room.
That's why.
