Fortunate is One Who Exists Before Coming Into Being

The Master said, “Fortunate is one who exists before coming into being. For one who exists has been and will be.” (64, 9-12) The above statement is from the Gospel of Philip. The Gospel of Philip is thought to be a collection of excerpts from a Christian Gnostic catechesis. Some of the text are examples of Valentinian thought (Valentinus, the great Christian Gnostic who Tertullian tells us nearly became bishop of Rome ), and all have a Gnostic flavor. This is one of my favorite verses from the... Sign in to see full entry.

Limiting to One the Paths to "God" is Like Limiting the Quenching of Thirst

To Water Though American, my heritage is Norwegian. Because of this, I plan to travel to Norway soon as part of the spiritual journey that I am on. There are many paths that I could take to get to Ranum, Norway, the farming area of my ancestors just outside of Oslo. I could come from the south, stopping in Europe first to visit friends. Or I could come from the east out of Sweden, after spending some time in Stockholm, a place I’ve always wanted to visit. I could also come from the west, flying... Sign in to see full entry.

Does the Holographic Universe Explain "Reality" the Way Hinduism Does?

In Michael Talbot’s book The Holographic Universe, he describes David Bohm’s assertion that everyday reality is really an illusion. Here is how it is described in the book: Underlying it (our everyday reality) is a deeper order of existence, a vast and more primary level of reality that gives birth to all the objects and appearances of our physical world in much the same way that a piece of holographic film gives birth to a hologram. Bohm calls this deeper level of reality the implicate (which... Sign in to see full entry.

What if The Universe is Nothing But a Giant Hologram?

I was in my office at home last night, looking through my library, and I came across Michael Talbot’s Holographic Universe, a book that I first read many years ago. This book changed my ideas about the reality we live in and it, along with learning about various religious concepts of reality, helped me to better grasp the idea that the world we live in is an illusion. David Bohm, a highly esteemed physicist and protégé of Albert Einstein and Karl Pribram, a neurophysiologist at Stanford... Sign in to see full entry.

Does God Own Us?

Ownership: the act of having and controlling property. By this standard definition, having and controlling property makes one an owner. Well, a minister said recently during an explanation of Psalm 23 that this is an allegory for our relationship with God. Much like sheep are dependent on the Shepard, we are dependent on God. Much like the sheep are taken care of by God, we are taken care of by God. And just as the sheep are owned by the Shepard, we are owned by God. Wait, what was that? We are... 'Be Passersby' is an Active, Loving Request

So I was reading a sermon by a Presbyterian minister today, who was explaining to his flock about Gnostics. In the Gospel of Thomas (a well-known Gnostic text), Saying 42 reads as follows: Be passersby. This minister was explaining to his congregation that in Gnostic terms, this statement meant that as a Gnostic, one does not involve oneself in the external world, but focuses in on the internal, or spiritual, world. One remains detached from the everyday world that we live in and just focuses on... Sign in to see full entry.

The Face of the Divine

We are born naked With a face resembling the Divine Whomever looks at us Sees the face of God. Our pure Divine face Is seen by the world. Endless joy and happiness Is our response to its gaze. We are full of love Until the Profane seeps in. And begins to whisper Its doubts and concerns. We are no longer Divine The Profane strongly assures. But a mask will protect us From the thieves of sacredness. The mask proves successful In protecting each self But damages are many From the falsehoods built.... Sign in to see full entry.

Humility Ignites Humanity's Light

Born of light, and born to be light, A light began shining on a cold winter’s eve. Through initial cycles of vibrancy His light illuminated those around him. Introduced to himself early on in his life, His light gently began to dim. As cravings grew and yearnings took hold, The light slowly became muted and diffused. By the beginning of the spring of his life No light was present at all. Darkness reigned in his reality; He wandered, blissfully adrift in the carnal. Every desire fulfilled, every... The Lost Tomb of Jesus

So someone has supposedly found the tomb of Jesus – containing ossuaries with names inscribed on them. These names, the film claims, are translated to read: Jesus, Mary, Mary of Magdalene, and Judah, son of Jesus. The names Matthew and Joseph who, according to the director of the film are the brothers of Jesus, are also found. I didn't see the film. I didn't get home in time to see it. But I did watch a panel discussion of the film. And based on what I heard and saw in that panel discussion, you... Sign in to see full entry.

Wanting vs. Giving

This popped into my head today during meditation. I'm not so sure about it, but here it is - If you want things, you are selfish If you want peace, you are misguided If you want love, you are hurtful If you give things, you are an angel If you give peace, you are a saint If you give love, you are Divine Wanting destroys. Giving creates. Sign in to see full entry.
