The Bible is An Important Part of Christianity, But Inerrant?

I was asked this past Sunday of my belief in the Bible. Did I, the question was asked, believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God? My answer, based on my research and questioning, is no. In looking at this incredibly amazing spiritual text, it is impossible for me to come to any other conclusion. There are too many contradictions and inconstencies, from the obvious differences in the story of Jesus as told by Mark, Matthew, John, and Luke to more specific examples (Paul on the road to... If One Doesn't Love Unconditionally, One Can't Be a Vessel for Divine Love

This post was inspired by Bhaskar's post from Wednesday: When talking about love, it can be said that there are several kinds of love – brotherly love, sibling love, parental love, romantic love, etc. But when talking about specific varieties of love, there are only two: unconditional and conditional love. Conditional love is rampant in the world. Conditional love is exactly what it says it is: conditional. It’s saying that I will love you only if you do these certain things, or meet these... Any Claim of Religious Superiority is a Claim of Ego, Not Spiritual Truth

I was reading over the week end about Christianity and tolerance. And I came across a website that supported Christian intolerance. The argument laid out on this website was that, according to the Bible, only Christians are saved. Since this is the case, they claim, then there is no reason to tolerate any other religion because, ultimately, Christians are right and everyone else is wrong. This is not the claim of one who has seen the Truth. This is the claim of one who follows the wrong master.... Sign in to see full entry.

What Role Does Authority Play in Your Spirituality?

Another question that was asked of me from this past weekend - and perhaps a good question for all on spiritual journey: What role does authority play in your spirituality? Personally, and meaning no disrespect, I have little use for authority when it comes to religion. I do however, have the utmost respect for spiritual authority. What I mean by this is that my experience of the Divine cannot be told to me. An "authority" figure can't tell me what I am supposed to do and feel with regard to the... Sign in to see full entry.

Does "God" or the Divine Need Our Help?

I was asked another question this past week end regarding my beliefs. The question was, “Do you think “God” or the Divine need our help? My answer was a resounding yes! I believe whole-heartedly that we are co-creators of this reality. I also do not believe that “God” is involved in our daily lives. Since we are co-creators and since “God” is not involved in our daily lives, I think we have no choice but to help. Our lack of help, I believe, is part of the problem in today’s world. Here’s why:... Sign in to see full entry.

Understanding Good and Evil

I was asked recently to explain my understanding of Good and Evil. Since I believe in the duality of this reality that we occupy, I of course believe in evil because I believe in good. And you can't have one without the other. But I also believe that while evil exists, it may not ever be something that an individual may experience personally. I also believe there are levels of evil, or malevolence, if you will. This level is based on one's beliefs in evil. A person's reality is partly a function... Sign in to see full entry.

What the Master Doesn't Say

I read Bhaskar's post "Truth Cannot Be Taught; It Can Only be Caught" this evening and it inspired me to write the following verse: People come from near and far To hear the Master’s word They sit in awe as he shares his thoughts But for me it is absurd While I hear the Master speak Understanding is not here Though his words can shrink the strongest man I am not cajoled by fear For if one’s goal is the truth Mere words get in the way To truly learn one must listen to What the Master doesn’t say Sign in to see full entry.

Christianity Requires One to be an Example

Yeshua said: “After all, no one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, nor does one put it in a hidden place. Rather, one puts it on a lampstand so that all who come and go will see its light." - Gospel of Thomas, Saying 33. “Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.” Matthew 5:15 Both of these sayings are very straightforward. As a Christian, one must be an example for others, a shining light for all to see. One must live... Sign in to see full entry.

Christianity: Simple Yet Amazingly Challenging

I love Christianity for many reasons. One of the most important reasons is because of its simplicity. Read all you want of the New Testament. Read all you want of the various apocrypha. Regardless of what you come across, Christianity is really just about two things: loving God with all of one’s heart and loving one’s neighbor as oneself. And while Christianity’s two laws make it very simple, those same two laws make it very challenging. It is the ultimate dichotomy. Loving another with all of... Sign in to see full entry.

Finding a Place to Feel Human Again

I was sitting watching it snow in northern Vermont yesterday, and loved it. Me, who has lived in Arizona, Southern California, and Hawaii for almost all of my life, loving the snow. It’s not just the snow there. It’s also the lifestyle. Very laid back. Very friendly. It’s a place where I truly felt human again. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love the big city. The Phoenix metro area has just over 4 million people and an energy level that is just amazing. There are so many things to do and nearly any... Sign in to see full entry.
