This is one of those statements that discourage me from going to church.
I have always been totally averse to the whole communion thing because (for one thing) it makes me feel like cattle or a herd of sheep. I HATE being led ...

I would rather find my own way.

I like your example. It's a good description of the concept as I see it. Thanks, my friend.

In a way I think that we are owned, though this word would convey a negative meaning. A more appropriate way to describe it would be that we are all engulfed in the all-permeating
prana, the vital force of nature, just as a fish is surrounded at all sides by the sea. In that sense, yes. But since we are also invested with free will, to that extent we are free too and not owned.

Tell me more about this? I'm struggling with understanding ownership as a kind of love.

It is hard to comprehend love in ways other than how we humans express it. Therein lies the dichotomy.

Good point, my friend. So this ownership thing makes no sense on a couple of levels!

While I can see your point about what the minister may have meant, I agree with you that "owning" has a bad feeling about it. I agree to that we have complete choice in how we conduct our lives. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment.

Not only does God NOT own us, HE does not take care of us either, in that He gave us everything needed to do that in the beginning. Our lives, this planet, and, eventually, the entire universe are His gifts to us. He wants us to have them. This is my real and considered belief.
Good post.

I would just ask this...
how do you own yourself? We are all pieces of the Divine... as I see it.

I don't believe God owns anything.
He keeps trying to tell us to get free of owning anything too, in many places I've read.

I don’t much like the connotation of “ownership” either….. We are free spirits infused with the love of God.

I see God as a Father...but I think I know what the minister means...we are
bought with a price, the Scripture says...with Christ's blood...and in that sense when we give ourselves to Him, we then belong to Him. "Owning" sounds rather possessive in a bad way, and I do believe God gives us free choice.
