Same Sex Marriage Used to be Acceptable. Why Not Now?

A few interesting notes about gay marriage: - In an art museum in Kiev an icon from St. Catherine’s monastery on Mt. Sinai shows two robed Christian saints. Between them stands a man, a pronubus (best man) overseeing a traditional wedding. In this icon, Christ is the pronubus and the two being wed are both men. - Both St. Serge and St. Bacchus (the two saints mentioned above) were known partners – “joined in life” according Severus of Antioch. St. Serge was openly described as the “sweet... Sign in to see full entry.

Yeshua Says There Are Many Ways to "God"

I am disappointed when I read of Christians who consistently state that there is only one way to “God”. When I read the New Testament, I see Yeshua telling us that there are many ways to “God”. First, there is Mark 9:38-30. In these verses, Yeshua tells John not to forbid a man, who did not follow the rest of the apostles, from “casting out devils” because there is no man “doing a miracle in my name” who should be forbidden from that. Yeshua states that “he that is not against us is in our... Sign in to see full entry.

What, Me Worry?

Many of us spend an inordinate amount of time worrying. We worry about family, we worry about friends, we worry about work, we worry about “God”. But if we truly have faith in Yeshua and “God”, then why do we worry? Isn’t that what it comes down to? Faith? Trusting in “God”? If we truly have faith, if we truly believe in “God”, then isn’t worrying a complete waste of time? Yeshua thought so. Here is what he said about worry in the Gospel Q: Jesus spoke to his disciples: “Don’t be anxious about... Sign in to see full entry.

The World is a Bridge, so Don't Build Your House Here

On a mosque at Fatehpur Sikri, India is the following inscription: Jesus said, “This world is a bridge. Pass over it, but do not build your dwelling there.” Compare this to Saying 42 of the Gospel of Thomas: “Jesus said, ‘Be passersby.’” Another similar statement is found in the writings of Petrus Alfonsi. Writing in his Clerical Instructions (in Latin) Alfonsi states, “The world is like a bridge. Therefore, pass over it, only do not lodge there.” Isn’t it fascinating where one finds Yeshua’s... Why Can't Reincarnation Happen?

Some interesting statements on reincarnation: Yeshua said in the Gospel of Phillip: “Fortunate is he who exists before coming into being. For one who exists has been and will be,” indicating the pre-existence of souls. Josephus, the well-known Jewish historian, wrote in Jewish Wars and Antiquities of the Jews that reincarnation was taught widely during his day (most of the first century AD). Philo of Alexandria, a contemporary of Josephus, discusses reimbodiment in many of his writings.... Sign in to see full entry.

Kill Ego, Vol. 2

In destroying the self, in getting rid of the “I” (Ego), one goes through much pain and suffering. This is not pain and suffering that one is used to experiencing in life – various cuts, bruises or broken bones. This is the pain and suffering created by years of guilt and denial. It’s the repressed feelings of anger, shame and arrogance that we all have based on the lives we live. It’s the lusts we have for the things of the material world. As we begin to move inward in our quest for “God”, a... Sign in to see full entry.

Kill Ego, Vol. 1

Jesus says, " God’s kingdom is inside you and outside you. Whoever knows oneself will find this. And when you know yourselves, you will understand that you are children of the living father. But if you do not know yourselves, you are in poverty and you are the poverty." Gospel of Thomas, saying 3. Jesus says, "And I say to you, what you seek and inquire after, look, it is within you." – Dialogue of the Savior 16 "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is... Though Yeshua Says to Not Establish Rules, We'd Kill Ourselves Without Them

In the Gospel of Mary, one of the documents found in the Apocrypha, Yeshua makes a statement simple in its message, but profound in its implications. Yeshua states, “Do not lay down any rule beyond what I have set for you, and do not establish a law like the lawmaker, or you will be bound by it.” Here is my take on it: This is a profound statement because of what it implies. Yeshua is saying if we follow his rules (love God with all of your hear and love your neighbors as yourself), there really... Sign in to see full entry.

Salvation is Being Free to Think Differently

Salvation – The American Heritage College Dictionary lists the definition of the word as “deliverance”. The Hebrew word is “yasha” which means “to be free”. The Greek word is “apolutrosis” which means “deliverance”. The word “deliverance” in AHCD means to “rescue from bondage” and in particular, from sin. If we remember that the word sin really means to “miss the mark” and that the Greek word for repent (metanoeo) means to “think differently”, then salvation is deliverance from wrong thinking;... Sin is Just Thinking Differently

Sin. If one believes as I do that sin is “missing the mark” (from the Greek word for sin, “hamartano” and the Hebrew “chata’”) which is the true meaning of the word with regard to spirituality and “God”, then everyone sins. Because everyone misses the mark when it comes to understanding “God”. Sin is not deliberate disobedience of God. Sin is not shameful. Sin is not “utterly wrong”. Sin is missing the mark. The word comes from the sport of archery, where if one didn’t hit the target, then it... Sign in to see full entry.
