What a long strange trip it's been. Jerry Garcia was right!

I did most of my growing up and learning (school stuff) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I graduated from high school during the first half of the sixties. There was a consensus that being in a university town, ours was a very good high school education, and many of my classmates went on to attend the University of Michigan. Being young and therefore dumb, I didn’t take my parents up on their offer to finance the furthering of my formal education. The world was waiting for me to take it by storm and the... Random musings of the "Sage of the north"

Back in his “Easy Rider” days Dennis Hopper was practically a walking pharmacy. Now he is a spokesperson for Ameriprise Financial Corp. When he talks about “crazy dreams,” I am pretty sure that he knows what he is talking about. He was practically unhireable to Hollywood casting people, after many erratic drug-induced episodes. He made Robert Downey Jr. seem as conservative as a Mormon………..Well maybe I should have chosen a different example of normalcy, given Warren Jeffs’ messianic megalomania.... The impressive Ron Paul! Stacy Peterson missing? C'mon!

My friend Dwight Broadstone directed my attention to Ron Paul, back when all the presidential candidates began regaling us all with their ads, half-truths, and outright lies. I distrust both major parties instinctively but when I read about what he had to say, I was very impressed with him. Naturally, I assumed that he didn’t have the chance of a snowball in hell of being elected but maybe people are wising up about all his rivals and their behind-the-scene handlers and owners. Most Republicans... Sign in to see full entry.

Teasing night at our house. If you weren't there, you're square!

Tonight is teasing night I guess. I picked up a fly swatter (It’s that time of the year) and I told D.J. that he had nothing to fear from Spiderman. I told him that if Spiderman broke in and went for him, I’d swat him like a fly! “Don’t worry D.J.! If he tries to bite you, I’ll squash him like a BUG!” D.J. looked at me as though senility was a “fait accomplie” and it was time to decide which “Nursing home” I should be assigned to, so I could die quietly with a minimum of fuss. All he said was,... Sign in to see full entry.

Coping with the life we chose to make for ourselves. What were we thinking!

Have you ever thought about how your whole life is determined by one thing leading to another, which leads to another, etc? Once we head down one path, there is no going back because life is just one very foggy one-way road. We can’t see what lies ahead and each fork in the road leads to its own series of other forks, which will take us eventually to the end of our personal road. Everyone’s life is heading to the same destination, but the journey itself is what everything is really all about. I... Sign in to see full entry.

The mysterious, universally experienced dream!

Do you ever wonder about dreams, and if one is recurring, what it is that you are trying to work out by re-running them? I don’t read books again. It takes a special movie for me to view it more than once. There are so many books and movies that I’ve never seen yet and life is too short to squander time on revisits. Why do the same dreams show up, over and over again? There are “ experts ” and medical professionals who claim to understand the meaning of dreams, but I doubt that they are doing... This will make you feel better, or worse, I don't care, anymore!

In the new Centrum commercial, who’s hotter, Selenium or B12? Sorry, that was just me, checking to see if Marilyn ever looks to see what I send out over this blog-site. She has a ½ to 1 second fuse, which means that by now, she would have exploded all over me and given me my answer. It would be messy and ugly but it would tell me that I could NEVER speak (or spell) honestly to anyone, ever again. If I turn up missing, you’ll all know what happened to me. For your own safety, DO NOT share this... Sign in to see full entry.

My insoluble problems make your life seem much better than you think it is

This time of the year, it’s really hard to heat our house with a wood stove. It’s not cold enough yet to keep a good bed of coals going round the clock, so we try to keep a slow burning smoldering fire going, to only add 10/20 degrees to the inside temperatures. This results in way too much heat or way too little heat, much of the time and frequent chimney cleaning is necessary. Once frigid cold sets in, we have a much easier task of heating efficiently and effectively. Marilyn has to stay much... Sign in to see full entry.

The ghosts of Halloween past, come home to roost!

Another Halloween has come and gone. When we were all kids, this was the second best holiday of the whole year, second only to Christmas. I’m not sure why we liked those two holidays so much. Oh yeah, free stuff we didn’t have to work for, or save money so we could buy it! Looking back, Halloween was a strange thing to teach a child. We learned that we could extort candy from the entire neighborhood by threatening to vandalize their property if they didn’t satisfy us with their offerings. We all... Sign in to see full entry.

How I got my brother Perry to stop pestering me!

My brother has appointed himself the family chronicler. He repeatedly asked me to write a page for him to include in his version of the officially approved family history. I finally gave him this composition, knowing that he would "lose" it and stop bothering me. This is what I wrote: Memories of my youth, by Guy Stafford I was born on October 9, 1945 in Flint, Michigan, a day which has yet to be declared a national holiday. One can only assume that this oversight will be taken care of in the... Sign in to see full entry.
