The return of the sage! Call off the search party! Don't pay the ransom!

Hey everybody, I’m back! As Mark Twain said, “The reports of my death were highly exaggerated.” My flight from the west was mostly uneventful. My biggest problem communicating with you all, was due to computer abuse. I expected to return early enough to stop at the Flint Michigan Amtrac Station, before the ticket office closed at 1:30 P.M. to pick up my antique computer, that my best friend was fixing for me. When I was awakened at 2:30 A.M. for the return flight, this seemed an easy thing to... Sign in to see full entry.

Goodbye, New Mexico. Thanks for the memories. WHAT memories!

On this, my final day of vacation, I write while the last hour of daylight marches itself up the south side of the mountains, and I'll not see this happen again for a long time, if ever. I have dozens of beautiful photographs that are magnificent when run as a slideshow, but their effect is lost when a photo that was meant to be viewed as 12x15 inch photo is reduced to the size of a postage stamp. I had visualized a photo at least the size that I have seen in Offy's and Corbin Dallas' blogs.... Sign in to see full entry.

Look around you, but use your "photographer's eye!"

I just finished exposing the last few frames of my fourth roll of film, when it hit me. I have found beauty worthy of determining composition, content, lighting, color, contrast, and all the necessary factors to produce a photograph instead of a snapshot, nearly 100 times over the course of a few days. I passed on recording many scenes because I am picky about what meets my standards of acceptability. When I saw the Rocky Mountains poking through the clouds through the airplane's porthole, I... The New Mexico Chrocicles, I'm new at posting pics!

Hey everybody! Greetings from New Mexico, “The Land of Enchantment!” I will attempt to post a blog from here and even attach some photos that I have taken. I hope that my photographs come close to doing justice to the majesty, color and scale of this breathtaking state. That this is even possible, is by no means a sure thing, scale just doesn’t seem to transfer from one’s own vision, to video screen or 8x10 photo effectively. Up here you can look DOWN at clouds and airplanes, eagles and stars!... Sign in to see full entry.

My last pre-flight blog, (Correction) for A WHILE, hopefully NOT my last!

There is so much to do before my trip out west, saved until the last few hours to take care of, that I hope that I don’t forget anything important! I have to disconnect my computer tower, clear all the detritus out of my truck, pack my suitcase, (I don’t even OWN a suit!) pack my Norelco, toothbrush, fold and pocket my flight itinerary, make sandwiches, etc. etc. etc! It was raining when I woke up and I could picture myself clearing out my truck in a drenching downpour but thankfully the rain... Sign in to see full entry.

Familiarity breeds contempt! How true, how true!

My imminent departure for New Mexico is having an interesting effect on how I am treated by Marilyn. I thought that I would notice a change but only AFTER my return, and once again, she has surprised me. As Marilyn was about to leave for her daily shopping trip, she asked me what she could buy to make ME happy! Suspecting that this was a trick question, I replied, “A big succulent pecan pie!” She told me that she was planning to spend $15.00 of our money on me, and a pecan pie would probably... My vacation in New Mexico! OH BOY! OH BOY! OH BOY! Two days away!

Well folks, in two more days my long awaited and much anticipated vacation visit to New Mexico will finally occur! To see the Rocky Mountains again, elk, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, maybe even buffalo and smell sagebrush after a nearly forty year absence, excites me more that words can convey. If my connecting flight to Denver passes over Boulder, Colorado where I met my ex-wife, I will be sure to make use of the toilet in remembrance of the day I met her in a print shop in 1970. I cannot... Sign in to see full entry.

Robert Service's "The cremation of Sam McGee." If you don't know him, DO!

Yesterday, I recommended this remarkable poet to two separate friends, then I thought that I should tell everybody about him. He is a famous author and his work is taught in schools throughout the world. Still, I am sure he has escaped the notice of many truants or those that thought that poetry was boring and weren't listening. Maybe now, his scintilating talent for spinning a tale will catch your adult interest. I hope so and predict that you will enjoy reading his works. Read a bit and you... Sign in to see full entry.

Bears, birds, Starbucks and me, Oh My!

For some reason, a peculiar twist of my mind visualizes a completely different scenario than the one that was intended, in the new Starbucks commercials that are running now, during the holiday season. In one, a woman encounters a bear while walking in a snow-covered forest setting. She approaches the bear and puts her arms around the surprised bear, giving him a “ bear hug.” The incredulous bear raises his paws and hugs her back, in a message obviously intended to convey the spirit of the... I must have been a REALLY bad person in a previous life to deserve this one

My computer is driving me crazy! It is capriciously changing the colors of the icons on my desktop display, making very irritating blip sounds that forced me to turn down the volume, which I don’t really use anyway. I have to repeatedly restart my dial-up connection, it refuses to allow me to browse through my favorite writers on our blog site, and when I attempt to leave a comment, it kicks me off in the middle of one and puts me back into my own site without warning. It is even slower than... Sign in to see full entry.
