Today I didn’t have to work because all the back roads are like bumpy, wet, crowned skating rinks. Wavy, greased glass that drops off on both sides. Try to drive on that! Good call, boss. Last night as I was feeling my way through the dark, ABOUT to step up on my waterbed, one hand on the ceiling, trying to find my way to the wall-side without stepping on one of twelve randomly positioned appendages, three human torsos, a dog, or falling on someone, (Ever tried walking on a waterbed?) I just saw a preview of tonight’s episode of Monk. In it Monk says, “At least I never skinned and stuffed my wife!” to which his therapist said, “And I’ve always been very proud of you for that.” As appealing as skinning and stuffing my ex-wife is, I never did that either, and nobody is telling me how proud they are of me. Today I wore my Detroit Tigers baseball cap into work. I hear that the total cost of the stimulus package will be around $150 BILLION! Now that is quite a piece of change! Do you realize that is enough money to carry Marilyn through two, maybe three whole YEARS worth of yard sales! I’m trying to do the math on this, and it looks like that is enough money to, if it were put into the form of Susan B. If George II is concerned enough about keeping his chickens from coming home to roost, just before a national election, to throw an $800.00 check to every adult (millions and millions of adults!) in our country, after squandering TRILLIONS on a bogus war, it begins to sink in just how MUCH money these Washington politicians are spreading across tables throughout the world. CNN just said that the percentage of our soldiers with a high school diploma has been dropping steadily in recent years. People appear to be surprised by this. It doesn’t surprise me at all. In a time when university graduates ask, “Would you like fries with your burger?” I would be disinclined to go into debt for however many years it would take me to repay student loans, (years and years) just to become another counter flunky.
