The following is a difference of opinion that I am having with my brother, Perry. We are only recently beginning to communicate via email, and I am glad to reconnect by way of cyberspace after a long period of time that we both communicated rarely, for some unknown reason. We both have led busy lives, and never argued over anything important, that I can recall. Assuming that you have read my previous posting, I would like to know what other bloggers think about what we are disagreeing over. Any... Sign in to see full entry.

The true costs of the Iraq War are now coming home to roost, like chickens!
What are the hidden costs of fighting a war? Certainly, there are obvious costs that everyone hears about, on the evening news, like the number of our soldiers killed so far, military weapons contracts, humanitarian aid programs, etc., but the hidden costs of a prolonged war, are staggering. Government spokespersons have weasel-words that they use, when forced to comment on facts that might prove to be embarrassing, or anger the electorate.(Voters) Words like, “collateral damage, pacification,... The light at the end of the tunnel! One war down, one to go! Good luck, BHO
When I learned that President Obama is pulling our armed forces out of Iraq, I immediately sold short, all of my shares of stock in American GI serving, and “servicing,” social establishments. Luckily, I cashed out, before losing too much money. The ones that I feel so sorry for now, are the war widows of Iraq, whose only recent income came from tips from the now banned, “ Wet birkha babes contest ” held nightly, in the Green Zone, AKA “ The Enclave of Blasphemous, Pork-Eating Imperialist... Mentally designing "New Sage Haven!" A happy pass-time, for this sage.
When happily spending a few idle minutes sitting alone and meditating, I enjoy fanaticizing about what I could do with my imaginary last lair, to free my life from much of my resented dependency on outside suppliers for many of life’s necessities. To grow and preserve much of one’s own food is possible, given necessary fertile acreage and farming and logging equipment. Meat and poultry animals can be raised on one’s own property. Electric power supply is one of the most challenging and important... Sign in to see full entry.

The great Pinewood Derby Race results. Despair strikes Sage Haven! Part III
Another Pinewood Derby contest is now recorded in the history books. It was already a foregone conclusion that the winner of the trophy would be a Cub Scout. Cub Scout rules for the race, were written to ensure that no girl could win, we already knew that. Being as the ramp has four different lanes, each car had to compete in each lane, to make sure that one or two slow lanes could not affect the outcome, unfairly. Ivy’s race car zipped down the track ahead of the others twice, and was beaten... Sign in to see full entry.

Fridge cleaning week, here at Sage Haven! YOURS don't take a WEEK to clean?
Today, Marilyn cleaned out our refrigerator. By “ cleaned out,” I don’t mean that she just threw out all of our old food, either! This was an all out scrub-down, wash and rinse, and wipe off, with a bleach soaked sponge. Next she discarded all of our carefully well-aged food! I said to her, “Awww NO, you disinfected the fridge, again! How are we supposed to maintain our immune systems properly, now?” She told me that it was time to clean the fridge, because the drawers wouldn’t go all the way to... Sign in to see full entry.

The Pinewood Derby competition between Ivy and the Cub Scouts, Part II
Before deciding on the final design of Ivy’s Pinewood Derby car, it was necessary to guess what things could make her car cross the finish line before all the competition. My intuition told me that since the maximum weight allowable, is capped at five ounces, a heavier car ought to roll faster than a lighter one. This could be true, or not, but one must begin somewhere with a strategy for design. Another intuition told me that equalization of the weight distribution on each of the wheels, ought... The making of a World Class, Cub Scout Race Car! Some assembly required!
This is going to take more than one, and probably several blogs, to explain. Hell, there might even be a book in it! D.J. is a Cub Scout. He is taking part in a contest, in which all the eight-year old Cub Scout boys produce a gravity powered, five ounce, piece of wood, paint, four identical plastic wheels, four identical nails, and their imagination, ………into a RACE CAR! Without even knowing it, I had been anticipating this moment for a very long time. Early one morning, Queen Marilyn herself,... Sign in to see full entry.

One small step for Madison Avenue, A great leap forward for advertizing!
If you are at all like me, you enjoy the large variety of funny commercial ads that make us all laugh, because they are extremely funny. If we are made to laugh, we usually remember the sponsor fondly. Pretty obvious, right? Super Bowl Sunday is the height of funny commercial advertisement season. Thinking about how entertaining the ads are nowadays, makes me remember the ones that ran, when I was a kid. In those days, an advertiser insisted on pushing dry facts about their warrantee, their... Unlikely people have become rich & famous! Will lightning EVER strike ME?
“I was getting depressed cuz o’ all o’ the stress I was getting at home.” Yata! Yata! Yata! Those guys probably have their own fan clubs, groupies, and stalkers, (that scowling granny is three for three!) Take my word for it fellas, fame & fortune, fans, groupies, and stalkers aren’t all they are cracked up to be! Okay, I am just guessing about this, especially the fame & fortune part, but I am certain about the fans, groupies & stalkers, part. I met a fan of mine who confided to me that I look...
