Today my little flea turned 7 years old. I was planning to visit her anyway, so when her mom texted saying that she had been called to work at the last minute and asking if I could grandchild-sit, I agreed immediately. It was one event after another. 1- By the time my son was available to pick up a natural tree, they were sold out. I resorted to buying a tall artificial one, resigned to missing the evergreen smell that I so enjoy at Christmas. 2- I had 4 meat pies (tortières) in the oven when the power went off.... I have a head cold. Bah! Humbug!! It will pass quickly, I hope. In the meantime my nose itches and is running like a faucet, I sneeze often and loudly and my parrot squawks each time. Already a week since I have posted – time just flying by and leaving me to wonder where it went, and what on earth have I done to fill that time. The answer right now is not much of anything. Sunday was to be a quiet day for the beasts and me, with Karen away for her sister’s birthday celebration, and just a little housework and baking planned here. My Elie is home now, with a huge cone around her neck and a list of medications meant to prevent infection, pain and, notably, indigestion from finally being able to eat after having starved for the ten days it took the ‘experts’ to get their act together. A bit of sanity is back in this house. It has been crazy here the last 10 days, with Elie being so sick, visits back and forth to the veterinary hospital (an hour’s drive each way), and finally her surgery yesterday to remove the obstruction in her stomach.
