Re: I love doing it, TAPS, but there seemed to be hoops to jump through

I used to be the one hosting.  I know what you have to go through to do it, but how much you will miss it when you stop.

You are the poster woman for taking lemons and making lemonade!

Re: Flour in a stew makes it very sticky, and I was at the top of the stairs

I'm so glad everything worked out and you had a wonderful holiday.  I always see those full house generators advertised and I would love to have one but they are so much money.  I hope you have a good day.

Oh no! I make lasagna and know it involves as much work as

our Christmas stew! Even if they say misery loves company, I wouldn't wish a cooking flop on anyone. Stauffers is a good replacement though, and I guess we can safely say we both put one over on the grinch!

I think the biggest frustration was that I thought,

with not working, I would have all the time in the world to prepare this year. However, the having to do things over more than once, and the electric power going on and off, it shortened the time considerably, so I ended up rushing anyway. All's well that ended well. And yes - finally she has met a guy with her sense of humour and work ethic! Looking good!

We used to put pennies and quarters in our birthday cakes, CCT

but I can't remember ever having that at Christmas. My kids wouldn't mind hosting the suppers, as long at the traditional fare (stuffed breads, Xmas stew, meat and sugar cream pies) are made by Memere. They tell me it's not the same  taste, but that could be a ruse, do you think? If I am elsewhere I leave earlier too, not keen on driving after dark anymore, so they get to spend more time with me when it's held here. Another ruse?

Yeh, FSI, that Murphy seems to be hanging around too much lately.

But like you say. we all got through it.

Flour in a stew makes it very sticky, and I was at the top of the stairs

leading down to the garage when I dropped it so yes, it was a mess to clean up. The doggies were gung ho to help, as you can imagine , but that much pork in their bellies would have created another set of problems. Yes - with all the trees out here it just takes a bit of a wind and the wires can break or short out out the power. I have a generator, but it's a pull start, and I don't have the strength to get it working. Have to call on my boys, who were busy themselves. Anyway, we made it through. All good!

I love doing it, TAPS, but there seemed to be hoops to jump through

at every turn. I also have to realize that I'm much slower than I used to be, and that plays a part. My house is huge, and the kiddies are allowed to run and play without any worry of breaking things, so the parents enjoy having it here too. I'm not sure if this wasn't maybe the last one I'll be hosting. We'll see.

The kids and granddkids really don't care, Pat_B.

It's me who gets hyper because everything might not be ready and I forgot to wash the fancy pickle dish which only ever graces my table at Xmas supper. They helped out, slapped the pickles in their jar on the table and got to the important part - that of eating Memeree's cooking.

I am lazy, Sassyass.

I would rather just skip the pain part and get right to experiencing the joy. They did enjoy the food, plenty 'doggie' bags left with the kids, and all good!!

Well, luv to you back! Yikes! Eeeeiii! You had one heck of a time. What kind of food grinch was around for Christmas? I guess he was tired after all he did at your house but he did come here and manage to screw up my homemade lasagne. Hours of work. Ended up having to serve Stauffers, but they ate it along with the other offerings, all in good spirits. You have a great family and a great attitude to not let that nasty grinch spoil your Christmas.

Never mind you won't have the problem for another year. Perhaps you will be invited to another  Christmas Dinner next year. Fairs, fair. WE used to have sixpences in our Chistmas pudding, but I think that is too unhygienic now.

Murphy's Law kept rearing its ugly head. Fortunately, you were able to get through it. Hopefully, next year's Christmas is better for us all.

Good Morning

Wow!  Things definitely didn't go as planned but you still got to celebrate and enjoy your day.  Cleaning up a mess from spilled food is not for the light-hearted.  I think you might have taken this better than I would have.  If I was there I would have helped you clean up.  Do you lose your electricity often where you are?  I loved this post.  It made me smile and I could actually see this in slow motion.  Yikes and double yikes.  It felt like an "I Love Lucy" rerun!

Good Grief!   I'm glad I didn't plan a big Christmas dinner like I used to.

Your day sounds like the script of a Hollywood "comedy of errors" plot.

When you film the movie, it might be appropriate to wear a big orange fright wig, a red clown's nose and costume with giant polka-dots. But seriously, you got through it and your smile still works. I hope everyone was properly grateful for your ability to power through, and the damn Covid phases itself into oblivion.

Good morning

I am so sorry that all did not go as planned. The Grinch is a force to reckon with. On the upside, there are usually multiple positives that follow the negatives. I have always thought that it comes down to our ability as humans to not completely experience joy until we have met with pain first. I pray that all goes well for you and that you can now enjoy the good stuff and leave the bad behind.
