Recently I wrote something that got quite a bit of attention. Praise, even. I was smiling a smug little smile as I heard the words of agreement. And then a friend told me he hated it. Pointed out the inconsistencies, the cliches. Funny thing, what it does for your ego to have someone you admire show... Sign in to see full entry.

Pampered, self-indulgent and likely to stay that way...
I've been spending money lately on postage and printer ink, also paper. Printing out stories, poetry, etc., and sending them off to new editors/publishers, opening myself up for new rejections. I know the odds are against me, but like they say when they're selling Lotto tickets, you can't win if you... Sign in to see full entry.

A woman with attitude -- first draft of an idea for a biography
I may have to fictionalize this. Work the bits into a novel. My sibs don't want to look at this in print for all the world to see. Don't know why, it's got a good "triumph over adversity" spin to it -- But then they're respectable people with an image to maintain. I'm the odd wad that took off for... Sign in to see full entry.

My friend the artist gave me a sketch of his granddaughter

This lovely sketch made me think of a poem. Dream Changer His granddaughter’s a mother now, Ayisha’s grace... Sign in to see full entry.

The library held a volunteer appreciation lunch for the ones who work in the used books and coffee shop. It's our diamond anniversary, the 10th year for the little shop. There are between 40 and 50 of us who take a two-hour shift once a week, stock the shelves, sort donations, order pastries and... Sign in to see full entry.

Two more weeks ...
And then I strut my hour upon the stage. It's at the Main Street Community Center, formerly known as the Senior Citizens Center, but too many "seasoned" folk like me didn't want to hang around with a bunch of old fogies. Attendance dropped, and then a new board took over, they changed the name and... Sign in to see full entry.

Home made gooseberry pie...
"It's a little tart," he said. "But I made it myself, even the crust." "Come on over, I'll make some coffee." So my son Guy popped over a few minutes later with a quarter of a pie, latice-crusted and pretty enough for a photo. He divided it and put it on plates. We each took a sample bite as we...
