- cont'd - “I hope Gus will tell you what’s going on with him,” she said. “He’s been a pill ever since his dad died, and absolutely impossible since we got engaged.” “Really?” “Anytime Clyde Madigan comes into the room, he walks out. At meals he sits there like a thundercloud. He makes it pretty... Sign in to see full entry.

What was I thinking?
One item on my shopping list was cinnamon. Lately I've been using quite a lot of it, since I saw on Dr. Oz that it's so good for me. I got the pet food dispenser to automate the process of feeding squirrels. I got the Omega 3 fishoil. The dispenser will work better with a corn and sunflower seed mix... Sign in to see full entry.

Revising Simon
In October I began dropping story ideas into my little blogs, one scene that came to me concerned an old guy and a teen-aged boy. Simon was hunkered down next to a campfire, sipping coffee and waiting not-so-patiently for the kid to wake up. Their horses were ground-hitched nearby. Simon and Li'l... Sign in to see full entry.

About Face (book) and the blue screen of death
Someone unknown to me, not a friend to any Facebook Friend or Family, sent a friends request a day or so ago. I clicked on his photo, went to his page, but couldn't find a connection, what he does, or any hint of why he'd want to friend me. So I clicked delete. Early one morning about a week ago I... The Write Your Own Story group
One Friday in mid-November Mary D. fell, broke her hip. Had surgery on Saturday and called in to the Main Street Center to report she could not run her Thursday "Write Your Own Story" class. When I showed up to cover the front desk on Tuesday, Sara asked me to take it over - for the duration. So I... Sign in to see full entry.

Temptations during the Polar Vortex
Used to be, when I was in better shape, a weather system like this would be a challenge. I'd pull on my boots, hitch up my britches and make the old man go out and shovel the front walk, warm up the car and drive us somewhere. I had plenty of brass in those days, didn't fear being stuck in the snow.... Sign in to see full entry.

Beans, beans the musical fruit...
Used to be we thought of beans, even the luscious Southern style beans n' ham, served with fried potatoes and onions and a nice slab of cornbread, was food you made to stretch the budget. Eat a couple meals a week of mac n' cheese or beans or some kind of casserole made of left-overs, and you could... Sign in to see full entry.

Granny Squares
During the hippy-dippy '60s and / or '70s, there was a needlework fad. People learned macrame and tied string into works of art - at one point our college's office building had a hanging in the atrium that covered the window from top (3rd Floor Level) to about eight feet from the bottom. It was a... Sign in to see full entry.

About Equality --
Way back at the dawn of memory our consciousness about unfair limitations on women's pay, etc., rose to Defcon 5. The liberation movement was both syncronous and a post-partum follow-up to anti-war protests, campus demonstrations and the sexual revolution some now blame on hippies. It was the era of... prevue of coming attractions
note to myself. Women's liberation issues from the '80s will be my topic tomorrow... very brief, some guy on the crew asked me, during reportage on bra-burning demonstrations, if I wanted to be equal... Sign in to see full entry.
