I've been holding my breath these last couple of weeks as things heated up in the Gulf of Oman - a US surveillance drone was shot down by Iranians, the President warned that was a big mistake. He said he called off a strike against the Iranians at the last minute because he was concerned about... Sign in to see full entry.

OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SIDELINE
All my stories have been written with material that was gathered – no, God save us! Not gathered but absorbed – before I was fifteen years old. - Willa Cather - [i] The passing parade Since I couldn’t find a wig shop here in beautiful downtown Mundane – the little town that’s a hop, skip and a jump... THIS 'N THAT
HOBNOB COFFEE & BOOKS An ad popped up on my FB page about a business called the Hobnob Market. Nothing on the page to tell where it’s located, but it struck me the name of my dreamed of coffee shop / bookstore should be Hobnob Coffee & Books… It’s not ever gonna be a real thing. But nice to think... Sign in to see full entry.

THURSDAY: WRITER'S NOTE TO SELF
Just reviewed the original copy of "Waltzing With Zombies" (Amazon, 2009). Decided my intense revision of it is a symptom of Writer's Compulsive Disorder (WCD) in which one fiddles and tinkers with a 'finished' project in perpetuity. Floods along the Mississippi continue to disrupt travel on... Sign in to see full entry.

SMALL PROBLEMS, ( solved ? )
Follow up So, 2 of the 3 problems have been addressed. One tote bushel of hats and scarves has been delivered to Goodwill. One pair of tinted glasses has been ordered. It turns out the shop I thought carried wigs does not, so will try the shopping channel. I don’t believe Amazon sells wigs. Also,... Sign in to see full entry.

SMALL PROBLEMS
Old saying: It's not the load on the shoulders that wears you down, it's the pebble in your shoe. I’ve used up my crochet yarn. Since I have three crammed storage totes full of hats & scarves waiting to be donated or gifted to the grandkids later this year, there’s no place to put more. So I’m on... Sign in to see full entry.

THE WRITER'S DESK - MONDAY
Found a thought-provoking quote in Chapter 1 of Bill Roorbach's book "Writing Life Stories." It goes like this: "The successful memoirist.... knows that truth is both different from facts and greater than facts, and not always their sum." Sign in to see full entry.
STORIES FROM THE CENTER: MONDAY
The Main Street Center is closed today. It shut down on Friday “due to construction,” and will not re-open until Wednesday. The construction is the parking lot, walkways from handicapped parking areas, and new green space landscaping. It’s been under way for nearly a month. It’s been one weather... CHAPTER 15 - MISSION CONTROL PART 4
As they pulled into Amanda’s driveway, Jake spotted the white van parked a block up the hill. At the front door, Jake pulled Jasmine close and whispered. “That van was at the campus, now it’s up the street.” “What do we do?” she whispered back. “For now, just act normal.” “What are you two... BLACK ELK SPEAKS
I read this book years ago. An Oglala Sioux wise man/healer's story written by a white professor named John Niehardt - I could be wrong about the author's name - perhaps you can Google it. Woke up this morning thinking the name was "Lone Elk," and went to look it up. I thought I still had a copy of... Sign in to see full entry.
