Ducks!

I've been thinking a lot about my Mom lately. She has been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the vertebral canal which compresses spinal nerves. It causes pain and difficulty walking. She recently turned 80 and is amazingly well-preserved for that age. Treatments for stenosis... Sign in to see full entry.

Where is the most outrageous place you skinny-dipped?

It was so hot here today (mid 80s) that I started thinking about skinney-dipping and then I started thinking about one of those outrageous times that I indulged in that. I'm one of those people who love being in the water and I love it even more if there is nothing between me and the water. A few... Sign in to see full entry.

A Valentine's Day recipe for you...

This is a recipe from the movie 'Chocolat'. It's "Mayan Hot Chocolate" and is reputed to have been used in ancient Mayan and Aztec religious ceremonies as a mood-altering drug. "It puts you into a trance so you could commune with the Gods," they say. I love this recipe and don't know about the... Sign in to see full entry.

Quackers called from North Dakota...

As many of you know, Quackers had a brief visit recently with Lucy. Somehow, he met up with the Aflac duck and together, they watched 'Animal Planet,' raided Lucy's fridge, spent a lot of time in her bathtub, and generally raised quite a ruckus. Just when she was about to consult an animal... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, no, sirens!!

A few years ago, we were having one of our Saturday night party nights, just the two of us, and we set the house alarm and decided to spend a little time in the bedroom. While setting the alarm, B. accidentally hit the 'fire', 'panic' and 'call police' buttons but we laughed about it and he quickly... Sign in to see full entry.

Vickie's Story

I think I was about 10 when I decided to telephone people I didn’t know and make up stories about who I was. Obviously, I was one bored kid. I especially remember being ‘Vickie,’ the cub reporter. Ring ring… “Hello, t he Anderson residence,” a voice would answer. “Hello, this is Vickie, a reporter... Sign in to see full entry.

This morning I found myself wide awake at 4am. The brilliant, almost-full moon was lighting up the sky outside my window and my head was full of so many ideas that I had to get up and write them down. Somehow, the ideas were charged with the moonlight and had an energy of their own. What is it about... Sign in to see full entry.

Wierd foods

While I was in a salon today, I was flipping through some magazines when, in the latest issue of GQ, I saw an article about wierd food delicacies. In many parts of the world, things are prepared as delicacies that you wouldn't believe. Body parts of chickens that I never knew were edible, sex organs... Sign in to see full entry.

Not the smartest critter in the litter

I used to have a cat named Tigr. He was the runt of the litter and as sweet as he was, he also had a dark side that led him into some crazy situations. It was almost like he had an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. I lived by the side of a canyon and Tigr and Pussycat were allowed to... Sign in to see full entry.

The gap between expectation and reality

One thing that really helps me put things into perspective is to look at the gap between expectation and reality. Whether it’s a sliver or a chasm, a lot of unhappiness can be found in that gap. If I expect someone to be kind and honest and they’re not, I am disappointed. If I expect people to be... Sign in to see full entry.
