Horrific fires in Victoria Australia claim 84 so far and death toll rises

Simply dreadful fires have swept the small state of Victoria Australia. They have not conducted enough burnbacks for the past years and with the build up of dry undergrowth and fuel it has been an accident waiting to happen. The small town of Marysville has disappeared. Of several hundred houses only about 10 or 12 remain standing. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25024876-661,00.html http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25025487-661,00.html Please pray for these brave... Yesterday was 47C in some parts of Victoria

This is one story of many in the bushfire zone in Victoria. It is horrrific what some people are going through. To understand the toll taken on people and their lives and how much manpower is out there fighting a hopless battle against these fires. When you have a look at the CFA's site and see how many urgent threats they have to deal with, it is mind boggling. http://player.video.news.com.au/heraldsun/#O8qYJuF66ZqaothzQezuEx0Q0jeeEpTU Thoughts and prayers are with these people and the... Julia Gillard and the ALP Stimulus Package - for the Aussies

On ‘Insiders’, the copper headed cobra, Julia Gillard, rears her head to hiss harmlessly at the Opposition again. It is always interesting to watch politicians on TV, mouthing platitudes and mechanically trotting out the same tired unworkable policies in new second hand clothing, with unerring efficiency. What irritates me most, is her robotic presentation. Her voice lacks passion and is unfaltering monotonous. When questioned as to why the ‘stimulus package’ has so little for people who are... What are your views on this? I find it strange to say the least...

This lady has had 14 children through IVF procedures. She already had 6 children when she underwent an IVF procedure to have 8 of her own embryos implanted. She is not married. I do not want to be judgemental but I am concerned as to the hardest part of child rearing and how she will manage on her own to raise these kids. Does being a lonely single child give her the right to bring 14 lives into the world and how is she going to raise them? Let's hope she is some sort of heiress; and even if she... Children Are The diamonds of our soul They teach us To be better beings In so many ways When we, who have left Our childhoods locked away In some dusty cupboard With the meccano sets, building blocks Broken dolls and tattered teddies, Are so unworthy at times Of their love. A child’s love can be broken In so many ways. Twins in a country town At 22 months of age, thrown Against a wall by mum Maddened with drink and drugs. Their innocence and intellect Locked down in fear forever. P with 27... Sign in to see full entry.

The Australian Labor Government have put together a stimulus Package

and the new govenment is throwing money at the electorate in a bid to buy votes perhaps. I always thought that when you are in deep pooh financially, you should pull your belt in a few notches. Apparently not, according to the Labor Government. Look I will not say no to the money, I really do need it for essentials at the moment, but nothing beats sound econonmic management. I am kind of scared as to where is this money coming from? Is it people's retirement funds or what? What really peeves me... Sign in to see full entry.

What is your opinion of Journalists?

Do they always think things through or mostly just react blindly to events and people? In my experience I believe it is the latter. There are some good journalists who really do investigate and write good articles. Then, there are the others - the manic wordsmiths who really do not think about what they are saying. They sensationalise and blow up events into a 'good story' just because they feel it will get readers' attention. A lot of the younger generation have lost the art of really reading.... Australian Education and Energy Crisis!

Australia has lagged behind current Education funding trends in Europe and America by failing to upkeep and update school buildings and resources on a regular yearly basis and having long term planning goals in both public sectors. Our federal and state governments and the general populace, do not seem to perceive the education of future generations important enough to spend money on. Australia spends just under $700 AUD a year on each student in the country. By contrast, the USA spends $1,500... Sign in to see full entry.

This was the film I didn't get to see the end of ...

If only "little" Otik had stayed that way! BY GARY MORRIS Despite its tortured history, Eastern Europe, but particularly Czechoslovakia, has managed to produce an almost uninterrupted flow of the world’s great animation over the past few decades. This is due to consistent state support for the format, a long folkloric tradition, and individual artists like Jan Svankmajer who manage to get state funding for projects that would induce seizures in knock-kneed American grant committees. Svankmajer,... Sign in to see full entry.
