I am in a filthy mood and will continue reading

dear Joyce Oates. I had a story rejected and have decided to make myself a little collage of rejected story titles. Sort of a masochistic exercise to strengthen the determination. I also was watching a weird story on SBS about a wooden Otik which I think was Russian with subtitles. It was very interesting and macabre. This couple cannot have children and out in the country one weekend at their country dacha the man digs up a tree root that looks like a little baby boy a bit. He carves it a bit... We spent most of the day at the pool after this oppressive heat

and I ended up leaving after I had had the life guard speak to me three or four times. The last time I was standing by the wading pool watching my son and this officious so and so came over and started to lay down the law to me. He was a young boy in his twenties and barely cut his milk teeth, no kids and just feeling like he needed to throw a little power trip around. Him -' The next time you come here with your son, you need to go in the water with him.' Me - 'I am afraid that is not going to... Sign in to see full entry.

I have just finished reading a book called 'Ugly' by Constance Briscoe

and am half way through 'Black Girl White Girl by Jocye Carol Oates. The latter is the better written of the two books, although both are gripping. The first book 'Ugly' is shocking in the brutality of its story. A young British girl of African descent is treated in a most disgraceful way by her mother and her father is just as bad for his lack of support both financially and emotionally. He seemed to care more about making money than his kids' emotional needs. He had six children with... Sign in to see full entry.

Today I saw a news story that broke my heart

and as I sit crying for a beautiful little girl's life ended so tragically, I think how much worst it must be for the police and ambulance personnel that had to deal with her poor broken little body AFTERWARDS. http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/5289069/girl-thrown-west-gate-bridge-dies/ I don' t want to recount the details but have put the link up. I had a fight with my mother over it and I feel like we are on different wave lengths. She stated to me, 'Oh it is all these immoral women these... Sign in to see full entry.

Nir's first day at school

Here is Nir on the way to school. A real problem getting him up early after the heat of this night and the fact that the power went off for several hours. I am lucky that the power came back on about 1 am. I talked to the guy down at TEMPO a Kosher grocery store near us. The poor man! He and his family have had no power for 12 hours - since 10 am last night. At least we got the power back on. I also took Nir to the wrong classroom for the first day of school. He was very cranky about being in a... Sign in to see full entry.

It is 40 plus degrees here in Melbourne

You can fry eggs on the pavements and a friend blistered the soles of her feet going out to check the mail. My friend is coming over for a birthday celebration. It is horrendous heat. I am dying. Byeeee Sign in to see full entry.

I just watched someone being interviewed on TV

about Home and Away and thought how strange that some people can be so involved and empathetic towards characters in soaps and yet so removed from their own families and real people around them. The danger is that when you identify with a TV personality's problems you begin to see them as more real than those around you and family. My mother is like that. She can cry for a character in say The Bill but feel quite unemotional about anything that happens to me or my brothers. She is removed from... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday Soliloquy

It has been busy. Yesterday we went down to the Yeshiva Shule in Hotham Street to hear my friend's son read for his Auffruf - call up to the Torah before his marriage on Monday. It is very exciting. I have known this boy since he was about fouteen months old. I actually met his mum when she was pregnant with her lovely second daughter. He will be 23 this year in October. My friend has had two sons married in about three months. Her eldest boy was married in America in November and now this boy... Sign in to see full entry.

What is your ideal home, not house?

I want an architect designed home with about four or five bedrooms (so I can have friends to stay), two bathrooms, a small granny flat with a huge flat screen TV for my mother and a little garden, three or four living areas = a lounge room, a dining room, a library and a study combined, a state of the art kitchen with meals area, a Pesach kitchen and a deck area and play area for kids in the back yard. No pool as too many kids drown in them. I'll take a tennis court and cricket pitch instead,... Sign in to see full entry.
