The interview

I had my interview at Penguin today. It went better than I had expected--better than the 10-minute interview I had at HarperCollins about two weeks ago that I bombed horribly. I went first to talk to the people who would be my supervisors, then went to HR to have a brief talk with the representative there. I'd met with her before, on another interview many months ago, which was why it was so surprising that she actually remembered who I was. With all the people she must talk to every day, day in... My "date"

Its been kind of a slow weekend. But last night I went to a concert with a friend, which was fun. We're both huge fans of the band that played. Only thing was-- J and I had been there for an hour, waiting for the bad to show up (they were supposed to start at 8:00, but the show didn't start until 9:30 which means that the band we'd gone to see didn't go on until about 10:30. I think in a past life I was a Ukrainian

Today after a meeting, I took another walk. I went back to the East Village. Its one of my favorite parts of the city. Next time I go, I'll have borscht, kielbasa, pierogies or... whatever. So, so good.... Sign in to see full entry.

Another job interview

...this time at Penguin. I had an interview for another position there about three or four months ago, and from what little I saw of it, I really liked the company. The position that time was in international sales, and HR was really great--not like HarperCollins, for example, where the HR reps are robotic automatons. The position at Penguin I'm interviewing for now is in publicity. I have zip experience in publicity, but tons of office experience. I heard about the job through another SPI... Busy-ness

I spent the day at my internship, reading more submissions. My boss is a professor at NYU and teaches a class in the Master's program in publishing, in how to be a literary agent. His students are in the agency on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and he wants me to pull aside submissions with "exemplary" query letters--so that's what Idid all day long. Some of the things I read definitely weren't promising. Anyways, I spent the rest of the day writing and doing errands. I've also begun selling some of my... Sign in to see full entry.
