Here it is, Wednesday... Mist and sunlight wander through the trees--there will be photos! Louisa has gained back the lost weight and is now off the feeding tube. That was the last of the support devices besides the incubator. This means she is strong enough to eat a whole feeding on her own, where before she would get too tired to get the last of it. This is all very encouraging, and more likely she will be home by the end of the week. I have my flight home booked: Nov 2, a Saturday. This gets... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Report 3
Mommy is home for a few hours to get a proper shower and reassure the dogs that she is not gone forever, and to pick up the specific things she wants on hand when she goes back to the NICU. She is still taking pain meds but is more mobile every day. Little Louisa is doing well. She was a little chilly this morning, so has been in an incubator--when we left, her temp was well up again, and she was having a feed of the milk Mommy pumped a little while before. In a couple of hours, Mommy will be... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Report 2
Her name is Louisa Corinne! After a slightly worrisome start, she quickly improved and is now off assisted breathing, and has had some quality 'skin-to-skin time' with Mommy. She is a very pretty baby! She eats well, too, I hear. Yesterday, Elsa met Louisa for the first time. Big grins! She is very pleased to be the Big Sister who will teach Little Sister things, she says, like driving--which starts with the button that opens the garage. My cold is running its course, and soon I will also be... Sign in to see full entry.

All doing well!
Baby entered the Big World around noon, she is right at 5lbs, and needing a bit of help breathing, but normal for a preemie. From the one picture I've seen, she looks like a pretty baby, and she has hair, even, as our Elsa did not for quite a long time. Meanwhile, the rains have come... light at the moment, but will be varied over the next week, sometimes with winds. I love the sound of it on the roof and skylights... while I am dry and warm in the house! Sign in to see full entry.
Birth Day!
Childe One is delivered to school, and Daddy has gone to be with Mommy at the hospital where preparations are underway for the C-section at 11am. Such a long time waiting, and suddenly, the moment is upon us! Still with this cold, coughing some and stuffy-sinuses sorta thing, I am at the house awaiting words. They've hired this doula to help with post-partum care, and she came over to have a chat with Daddy the other night. She showed up during Elsa's dinnertime, and immediately swarmed in to... After a day of staying home--after taking Elsa to school--and napping and snuffling, I am dosing myself with a night-time cold medication, and hope to get through the night without repeated wakings. Elsa went to sleep pretty easily and with only a little coughing, and we are all hoping that she'll sleep through the night. Not that she ever does... I hear every night overhead the thunder of toddler feet any time from midnight onwards as she goes to cuddle in the parental bed. Her dad is also... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Report
Still in waiting for Baby... Marika is bored and anxious and eager to have this phase over, the next phase moving along. She's still optimistic about bringing Baby home soon after delivery and her own recovery--C-section is scheduled for next Thursday. Elsa has had a troublesome cough that took her to the doctor yesterday. It appears to be a pleurisy kind of thing, not the cold, and she is now on some meds to heal it. Last night we all had longer sleepings. And I have a bit of a sinus thing... Sign in to see full entry.

Soon... Not yet...
This is the day I had planned to head home. But as it happens, I'm still needed here in Issaquah. My driving Elsa to her preschool and picking her up in the afternoon means that her daddy can go back to work this week. My daughter had another bleed night before last, a lesser one than before, but no bleed is insignificant. If an OR doctor had been the one on call, they'd have delivered Baby that night. After much pondering, they decided to wait, to try to get Baby to Week 36. Unless there is... Sign in to see full entry.

Issaquah report
It's a lovely sunny Sunday in the Pacific Northwest, and it has been a very quiet day as I stayed home rather than go out to Elsa's Mandarin class. I expect they had lunch with Grandpa and then she likely fell asleep on the way home which means Daddy sits in the car with her until she wakes. Still, I am surprised they are not in the driveway doing that yet. Meanwhile, I made some vegie soup and have done some prep work on the pumpkin we are going to carve later. There will be photos... Ah, news... Sign in to see full entry.

Driving in Issaquah
Today I got behind the wheel of an unfamiliar vehicle--my son-in-law's Landrover Discovery--and very carefully drove Elsa to her French-immersion preschool. It isn't a hard car to drive, and has all sorts of features my youngest vehicle--2005 Silverado 2500 long-bed pickup--has never dreamed of: Pushbutton ignitions... gear shift is a knob you turn to the desired setting... rear view camera... alarrums when you get too close to anything in front or behind. Now it is a matter of experiencing the... Sign in to see full entry.
