Early morning dreams and meditations

I have and remember the best dreams that come just before waking. This morning, I dreamed of planting a spiralling grove of gingko trees... starting at the center and spiralling outwards, adding a new sapling every year. I got to thinking how far apart they should go to have room to grow, though eventually, to grow side by side so close, they'd make a wall around a center. Getting things done

Cool this morning, temps expected to top out 30 degrees cooler than day before yesterday, and with thunderstorms promised for later. The doves sit by turns upon the nest; the fishtank filter runs like a stream over a short fall; the 'keets are quiet; distantly, voices of people and an occasional dog... I slept in an hour extra, dreaming of slyly taking pictures in China, and watching things go up and around an invisible vacuum hose, just for the fun of it. At the end, Abby Bartlet joined me... Popping the Bubble

What's happening these days is the breakdown of the body of American myths-- about where we came from, how we made our lives here, what we did and didn't do to form this nation. Truth, finally, is being revealed and acknowledged. Some have always known these truths, but most of America, brought up on myths and lies that made us look better than we ever were, were nested comfortably in the school-taught beliefs that we were the Good Guys, the Nice Guys. And now... the season of wildfires

Today the morning sunlight has that peculiar orangey quality it gets when filtered through smoke. There are no fires near Colorado Springs, but we get the smoke from all the fires west of here, and that includes California's fires, and all the ones in the southwest states, and a couple of them burning in Colorado on the other side of the mountains. Ever think about living rough...?

There is a show, ALONE, which drops 10 survival experts in the Arctic wilderness around Slave Lake in northern Canada. They have 65 lbs of gear, ten items personally chosen. They are all experienced in living with, and off the land. They have a 'tap out' phone if they reach their limit for living rough. So far, two have tapped out. One fell and broke a leg. Winds are up again today, with promises of temps in the 80s F, and possibility of thunderstorms. So a typical Colorado Front Range day. Calling out what doesn't work

Summer is certainly upon us here in the Springs, though there are reports of many inches of snow in Boulder, about 80 miles to the north. My sister is living there, now. She sold her home of 24 years up in Estes Park, and moved into a pretty nice senior community. She sounds happy to be there. The facility is very conscious of senior needs, and the coronavirus situation, and there has not been a single case there. Winds and Weariness

As if to reinforce, for those of us staying home, that change is sweeping the world, we are having high winds for the past couple of days. 20-40 mph with gusts up to 65... I have had to bring in some plants because the wind dries them to a crisp, and put some down on the deck floor because otherwise they will get there anyway, and sideways or upside down. Ups and downs with feathers

I saw the dove in an odd posture this morning, and I am thinking she is laying her two little white eggs today. Starting the countdown... 2 weeks to hatching, 2 more to flying. One of my original two parakeets has died. Seeing him just lying on the bottom of the cage, it was clear he was gone. I adopted these two, the young female, the older male, four years ago last spring. He was, they told me, ~5 years old. So 9 is very good innings for a 'keet, and this was not unexpected. The Third Wish

I woke this morning from a dream in which I had been granted three wishes. The first was not too hard to come up with: perfect health! No more neuropathy, no more gout, no more weird-sightedness, no more diabetes! A body full of wellness, all the energy to go and do and dance! And perfectly-balanced brain chemistry, too, so no more depression, no more dysthymic never-quite-happiness!
