excerpted from her PM on Facebook: I'm back. I haven't yet read all the messages above because I am like several months behind in everything and only two thirds back physically, mentally and emotionally, and my house keeping and mail and computing and everything are pretty much all the way back. It is going to take me a long, long time to get caught up and I'm not even going to try to touch Mark's quarters (Ribcage) until I get everything else done. It is going to sit there with the door closed... Sign in to see full entry.
Update on our TAPS
She is home again, and feeling much better--however, her computer is sulking after her absence, and so she may not make it on here again for a little while, while she talks it down, or even brings in a professional computer comforter. Sign in to see full entry.
Summer skies
The dovelings did not fly yesterday, but this morning one has left the nest to flutter around the deck. It has not yet summoned the daring to leap out into the world of trees and skies. The other keeps a thoughtful eye on the first. The 'severe hail' we were threatened with yesterday never came. Not while we were watching and waiting, plants all prepared for it. But maybe this weekend. Right now, there are no clouds at all over the mountains where all this tends to originate. In the year I drove... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunny Wednesday
It's a lovely warm day with sun and dovelings and drugs in the offing...! I think the young doves will fly today. They are getting soooo big! Then, for a time, my deck will be mine again. I have no doubt that the parents will soon be making adjustments with a few new twigs to the nest, and the next brood will be in process. Meantime, my pharmacy has re-opened, and I can go get the meds that have been in need of refills for weeks now. They are all for diet-related conditions--gout, diabetes,... Sign in to see full entry.

Responding to Pat's post today...
In those days just after WWII, the young adults had come out of war, and their parents, the Great Depression. People remembered how it was to lack and to need and to wait. Kids of the 50s, we had Viet Nam and national division and deep suspicion of our government. But we had licence like never in living history, too, with The Pill making 'safe sex' possible, and relaxation on stigmatized traditions, like divorce and therapy and abortion. There was money flowing. We were patriotic, we were eager... Sign in to see full entry.

And suddenly, Friday is back...
Here it is 10am and I've been up since 5:30... coffee has gone cold, but that's okay... Workers outside the house have been doing something loud and persistant for some time now, a noise like being on a plane in flight. So it is not as annoying as, say, a jackhammer would be. I am getting my psych up for going out in the sunlight--yay for Vit D!--and replanting some beets, and watering the garden. Well, that waits until Charlie gets up and about--extreme night-owl, him, so that won't be... Sign in to see full entry.

Words of the times
We walk in the world with steps faltering and learning off balance more than not while muscles learn and grow... Time favors stepping out and hopping, running, skipping. dancing to musics heard both within, without... Days and years pass with steps certain, confident ambling through a life but not in charge... Until the sudden day when all around the world shifts gravity goes sideways streams flow up, Intents, designs our plans all fall awry certainties dissolve fears rise, tears fall Steps... It'sTuesday... I checked.
The new plants--peppers, Japanese eggplant, zucchini, and beets have gone to ground, so to speak. Now we have to get the watering system starting up so I don't have to carry buckets of water up and down stairs. I already had to reconfigure the tubs to make sure they have the best hours of summer sun as these are all full-sun plants. They will be getting 8-10 hours, I am guessing, in early summer, maybe more like 9-12 in midsummer. Suddenly, a ruckus! Two magpies out back are hollering at each... Sign in to see full entry.

Sun goes down on Monday
We took the truck out for a run downtown today, to deliver tax documents to the preparers. Always, anxiety arises when I begin to think about the taxes... Such a relief to not have to think about it for another little while! We went to Lowes today, masked and distancing, to get a few more well-started vegetable plants, more soil, and a few flowers: Marigolds to discourage bugs on the other plants, and a single-petalled red peony. I'm adding some zucchini and sweet peppers--yellow, orange, and... Sign in to see full entry.

How the garden grows...
https://flic.kr/s/aHsmMU46WU Here are the current photos of the garden. There are sprouts in the little plastic greenhouses, including peas that I will plant tomorrow in their proper bed. We have had a nice rain over the weekend, first of the season since the end (we hope!) of the snows and freezes. And I saw the first humming bird! He was up in the branches of the big maple out front, and I am wondering if there's a nest in there among the leaves. Now I will need to sort out all the... Sign in to see full entry.
