It's cool by the a/c in the living room, and cool in the truck, driving with a/c and the 'recirculation' button on. But it has been in the low 90s most of the day. There are clouds, but no sign of the big ones that bring rain and drama. I spent most of this morning organizing the Compass Rose photos over in my own files, then Flickr, and then that led to other organizings of photos in Flickr, and finally the ones that were to be posted here, finally were! My eyes are tired! In fact, I am tired.... Sign in to see full entry.

Summer Saturday
Not quite 1pm, and we are having a cool but gusty day in the Springs. I moved the avocado plants down from their ledge on the deck, they were blowing around so fiercely. They are now in a less windy part of the deck. It's in the low 70s so far today, but heat returns tomorrow, They say. No need for a/c today, but I get feeling a little stifley when the air around me isn't moving, so the fan is on. Charlie is going to assemble some smallish nested tables for me today. They are designed for... Sign in to see full entry.

quiet Friday
The day has been quiet and not too hot. Tomorrow is forecast to be even cooler. I don't suppose we are really past all the summer heat, so I will take care to enjoy the cool while it's here! There's a pot slowly simmering on the stove--last night's chicken remains--and the aroma is drifting through the house. I am awaiting a couple of deliveries this afternoon. Like watching for the pot to boil, waiting for a delivery. It's a small carpet that I hope is as attractive as its picture, and a set of... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday, bright with clouds
I opened my eyes this morning to see great bars of clouds in the blue sky. The weather took a turn overnight, and temps should be 10 degrees cooler today than the earlier week has been. Some forecasts suggest there may be thundershowers later. We'll see. I've cancelled my Hawaii trip for this October. Between covid resurgence, airlines repeatedly changing the flights around, the expense and all, it just isn't the time for it. I don't know if my daughter and her family will cancel, too, but I... Wednesday evening coming on...
Made one short trip out today--another Wasteland Bear to the UPS store, a bit of Middle-eastern lunch, and a brief grocery store run-around. The heat has been normal summerish low 90s, so the rest of the afternoon I've spent near the a/c. Tomorrow is BBQ Thursday so I picked up a nice piece of flat-iron beef steak. There may be chicken, too, if one thaws between now and then. I have not forgotten this week, as I did last week, that my friend who'll be joining us has dietary issues and can't have... Sitting on the deck in the morning
There's a lawn mower busy a block away, a more distant dog barking, and the occasional vehicle going by. Little birds peep in the big maple, and one of the doves was on the top of the gable of the building next door, roughly cooing, as they do. I am seated in the rocking chair with a view into the bedroom. My back is to the dove nest above and behind me about 3-4 feet away. Suddenly one of the doves flew to the railing, then I felt the wind on my shoulders and my head as it flew from there to... Sign in to see full entry.

lazy Monday
The mountains are gone again, barely visible behind the veil of smoke, and the sunlight is filtered to that dull peachy hue that will grow more intense as the sun goes down. It has been a lazy day here. The only adventure was taking Charlie and some of his bears to the UPS Store where he could determine shipping costs. After informing his customers, we stayed in the neighborhood for lunch so when one replied with a go-ahead, we went ahead, back to UPS, and he mailed it off. He gets his payments... quiet, peaceful days
The mountains are gleaming with morning light--So nice to see them clearly again! The winds aloft have changed, not the western wildfires. Fires in our west, in Greece, Cyprus and Turkey... Loss and heartbreak... I am not forgetting as I sit and gaze at the mountains beyond my own green garden. Never take blessings and good fortunes for granted! It's just over 80F at 11AM, and humidity is in the 20s. They promise isolated and scattered thunderstorms between 2-4pm. I suppose 'isolated' means one... Sign in to see full entry.

How the garden grows!
Another less-hot day, here, with clear skies and no hint of storm coming over the mountains. This is a good time of year to shop garden centers when they are eager to unload past-their-prime plants. At Lowes yesterday I looked around and came home with a mini-tomato plant that looked rather tired, and had a good crop ready to pick. As bedraggled as it was, it was half price, too. I also picked up a large hanging pot of dark red geraniums that needed dead-heading, but had a goodly number of buds... Sign in to see full entry.
