The other day at JoAnn's I found some pretty yarns and began to think of Yule gifting, and this morning got out a 'G' crochet hook, and set to work... I started with thinking of something other than a hat for my 5-yr old grandkid, Elsa, as that family has already got a pretty good supply of hats, some of them off my hook, and even a couple off Our Pat's hook. I started to make a scarf, a single stitch, back and forth rows. After a few rows, I looked it as a whole, and saw a glitch where I'd... Sign in to see full entry.

It doesn't feel like nearly a week since I wrote here...
...but Blogit tells me, so it must be true! Several days in a row of not up for much, then more busy-ness as the cold comes rolling in. It was not quite but close to freezing last night, and so before I go to bed tonight, the tender plants will come indoors. But before there is space for them, the dining room table needs to be cleared of the many objects and project bits and pieces that have accumulated since last time the jungle covered the table. Some of those, because we finally replaced the... Sign in to see full entry.

Leaf-peeping and ancient trees
Thank you, everyone for your good wishes and birthday greetings! Charlie's on the mend, and Embers has been doing some sustained purring the past day or so, so that says she is feeling better, too. Today Charlie and I went driving up into the hills to look at the pretty autumn leaves. The timing was good for where we went. Most of the aspens turn lemony yellow to gold, and a few go to a peachy color. Pictures, of course were taken... Looking forward to reviewing them and posting them in the next... 75 degrees F and I'm at 69!
It's a lovely fall day, temps mid-70s, air clear! Good day for a birthday, it is! Charlie's antibiotics are working, he's feeling much better now. We and my grandlad Vale just got back from early dinner at BJ's Brewery where I had their weekend-only prime rib special. After finally getting the scale down to 170, and my blood sugar numbers below 200s, this meal broke nearly all the rules, but for the special day, isn't it supposed to? The slice of prime rib was very fatty, as is sometime the... Sign in to see full entry.

Friday again
A few days ago, Charlie started having a sore throat that got sorer over the next couple of days. Last night there was a bit of fever, just over 100: typical for strep. This morning, he made an appointment at the place he went before when, with no insurance at all, he had a bad time with kidney stones. They quoted him a cost of $136, and then called him back a short time later saying they are no longer taking self-pay clients. He found an alternative place: Convenient Care Center at the Pike's... What happened to Tuesday?
If Monday seemed kind of a bust, Tuesday...! One of my friends who has been more and more isolated this past year and a half, and has his issues with despondency and uncertainty--though he is a talented musician, singer, and professional 'cosplayer' who does a great Captain Jack Sparrow--He was at WhimsyCon, saying, "I've forgotten how to people!" That was how I felt today even more than Monday: I simply could not/would not people! Instead, I read one of my favorite authors (Terry Pratchett's... Sign in to see full entry.

Back from the wars...
It's not just the day after a weekend event, it's a Monday... and feels like it! First, there are things that cannot be spaced out or put off: besides much petting of Embers, the garden was, in several spots, desperate for drink. Then there is sorting out the luggage, sending some to the laundry and some back to storage. There are also purchased and auction wins to be sorted and designated to various destinations and recipients. It pleases me no end to support the artists and to enrich friends... Already Thursday!
It dropped into the 30s again last night, despite forecasts. All the plants that went back out onto the deck yesterday seem to have survived the night. It was cold, but not an actual freeze. It promised to be about a 50 degree rise through the day. Last night my grandson Vale came over to see what Embers will need from him while Charlie and I are away from tomorrow through Sunday. Mostly, it will be company and her one daily medication. The others will be taken care of tonight and tomorrow... Sign in to see full entry.

Wednesday evening
Clear air all day, cool and sweet autumn comes breezing in! Temps were down to 36F overnight, 75 this afternoon. The next several nights will be moderately cool, but the forecasts look safe for putting the tender plants back out onto the deck. So it's a colorful garden again, though not quite the same as before. I heard a new squawk today! Someone was in the maple tree making quite a fuss for several minutes. When it flew, still squawking, across the street, it looked like blue jay! Not a... Sign in to see full entry.

Autumn pleasures
Chilly, mostly sunny here this morning. Suddenly, it's fall! But not actually cold enough yet to turn the leaves on the trees. And it will get a little warmer again so the garden on the deck can be reinstated. And just because the summer flower season is coming to a close, doesn't mean I am not still grabbed by some blooming beauties outside the grocery store... Found a gorgeous dahlia yesterday, and some bright red echinaceas! And inside the store, some humongous artichokes! Three of them are... Sign in to see full entry.
