For another day, the mountains are a mere suggestion on the western skyline, and while only low 90 F temps, it is not the nicest of days. What we really need is some long and thorough rainfall to cleanse the air! But that is not in the forecast until the end of the week, and we all know how weather predictions change. So, I am hoping for that rain sooner! Charlie finished another bear, posted on Twitter, and just like that, it was sold! Today I will drive him to the UPS store beside my credit... Sunday morning under haze
There are no mountains in view today. The smoke haze filters the sunlight to a sort of orangey color, and the haze is evident looking even a block away. It is not imagination if you think you smell smoke. From a cool overnight of ~50, we expect a jump of 40 degrees by afternoon. I woke early and went out to check for zucchini and yellow crook-necks. I found not much of either, but did collect some tomatoes and little peas. There is a new squash-family item blooming with a very pretty white... Sign in to see full entry.

The heat came back the very next day...
...and will be with us for the next couple of days, They say. And, thanks to the upper air currents, we expect smoke haze from the western wildfires to be increasing. I can see the mountains today, but maybe not so much later. Today was a big watering day, as plants front and back were showing sad faces. More tomatoes shifted from the vine to the kitchen. I'm thinking BLT on taco-wraps later! I also need to check down among the squash blossoms and leaves for large enough items to bring in. I... Sign in to see full entry.

good morning!
Here it is Thursday again... As I woke after a good night's sleep, Embers, as always was face-to-face there to greet me. After a bit, she settled down against my neck and shoulder, purring her faint, barely noticeable purr. But I notice that purr, because it has been too rare of late. It tells me she is feeling better than she has for some days now. And because of that purr, fading into cat-nappery, I didn't get up for another quarter hour. Did you know, purrs are healing? It's something about... Sign in to see full entry.

One thing leads to another...
The curtains got switched out as planned, and now the rest of the house has to catch up! The dining room table, the major flat surface of the house other than the beds, upstairs and down, like any flat surface, is magnetic to things to be sorted, put away, decided about later. Odd ends. Flat surfaces are like garages in that way. Well, it got cleared, to keep up with the 'new' curtains in that room. Embers has not been eating much lately, and is drinking a lot of water. Could be diabetes, and it... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday of changes
It's a brighter than usual morning in the house! Last night I took down the curtain that has covered half of the sliding door to the morning side of the house. It has been hanging there since I made the curtain just after moving in to this place. It's a lovely fabric I fell in love with at first sight! But it has been there for 7 years now, and much of the later time, behind a fishtank. The tank has two large goldfish in it, and goldfish require some amount of marine salt in their water. The... I knew this would happen...
I have a set of new knives, a paring knife and a medium sized utility knife. They are very sharp. I knew that one day I'd fumble a thing on the counter and knock one of my new, very sharp, very pointy knives off onto the floor, and that my feet would be down there. Usually I have that kind of extended second to dance out of the way, but not today. I felt the utility knife slip past my leg and knick my heel. So, yeah, there was a little blood from the knick, that's all. What I visualize is much... Sign in to see full entry.

Chilly Sunday!
It's positively chilly this morning! Overnight temps dropped to the low 50sF, and this morning it has made it over 60, with 72 the forecast high. And it is grey. I went to sleep last night to the sound of soft-falling rain, and only have to water the deck garden today, the plants not near the splash-zone at the front. The humidity this morning is 95%, but as cool as it is, it isn't uncomfortable. Other summers, particularly those where we had wild fires very near us, humidity was in single...
