And here it is, suddenly Friday! It's gonna be hot today, in the mid-80s with no promise even, of afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Got word from the Seattle kids yesterday that covid is in the house. Everyone has tested positive, though symptoms are light and already abating for the dad who was the first to test positive, and the younger kiddy has no symptoms at all. A year or more ago, I'd be in a panic, but it's so much milder than it was, it's just another health trial to get through these... Sign in to see full entry.

Cooler Sunday and Feline Mysteries
Finally made it through the heat to another cool day! There are lots of clouds, and some blue in the sky, and thundery weather is predicted all afternoon and into the evening. Well, we've seen how that works: It might rain, there might be drama... but possibly/probably not. Pixie's world got a little bigger yesterday. She likes to sit on a narrow table by the railings, spends a lot of time sitting and gazing into the neighborhood. It's one of her Most Favored Locations, day or night. I've seen... Busy Friday!
Company is coming! Joanne and her two teen daughters will be over for lunch any time after 11, and before then several things need to be accomplished. Breakfast and shower and basic kitchen clean-up are done; dishwasher needs to be set about its business; the kitchen floor needs a good vacuuming and rug-shaking. Then, a quick trip to the local Trader Joe's for some specific things to go into lunch. By then, the artichokes in the oven should be cool enough to be cleaned out and prepped for... New day, new energy!
Made it through another too-hot day yesterday, looking forward to a cooler one today! We did a little 'treasure hunting' at the local chain thrift store yesterday. Charlie is looking for more stuffed critters to adapt for a pirate themed event in September. We stopped for lunch and fought traffic in parking lots and on the road, and had the low-gas alarm go off. Not a big deal--the truck once went for 7 miles pulling the Compass Rose stage, getting maybe 10 mpg, and made it to a gas station. But... Sign in to see full entry.

photos of the new arrangements
https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C You can see a few things that have not yet found their ideal locations, like the leaf from the dining room table. But for the most part, the dining and living rooms are much cleaner and freshened up! Some of the teapots and cups will be finding new homes as they are cute, but never used. Some I will give away, some will go on Marketplace and help pay for the new cabinet! Sign in to see full entry.
A Day of Rest
There are still some places upstairs that require some attention with a duster, and some rearrangements of bits and bobs, but for the most part, the Great Spring Clean is accomplished. Well, if you don't consider the kitchen and the whole downstairs. For me, this is enough for now. I am enjoying it greatly each time I walk through the living room and dining room. I know my friend, Joanne, will also appreciate it, when she comes by. As it happened, that didn't happen last night as we'd planned.... Sign in to see full entry.

The end (for now) is in sight!
Taking a sitting break... The Great House Dusting & Clean-up continues. My back and hip were hurting quite a lot when I got up this morning, and I did something I rarely do, which is to take 3 acetaminophen tablets instead of 2. And it is working! What a relief! I was so distracted by excitement that I forgot to take the 'before' photos I'd intended, but did get a shot this morning of how things look now. Maybe I can find some older ones of how the wall and cups collection looked in its first... Sign in to see full entry.

Today's the day!
In a little while, Charlie and Rob and I will go collect that cabinet with the sliding glass doors, and they will carry it in when I've moved everything out of the path of entry. Then I'll take them to lunch for a thank-you, and after that, will dust the new shelves and begin to clear the dining room table, and fill all that wonderful new open space! I need to take a few before and during and after shots! All this began a few days ago with clearing and cleaning the shelves, teacups and pots on... Sign in to see full entry.

Upheavals continue...
I had to move the comfy chair to set up the lamp that was on the foyer floor until Vale, my grandson who lives with Charlie, moved a shelf unit down there, and lifted the floor lamp up onto the living room level. I needed to get behind the chair to re-place the long paper shade. Having wrestled the chair into the center of the room, I considered that rather than stick it back whence it had come, it could serve as a start to a change I've wanted to make for some time: moving the couch to the... Spring cleaning, Summer changing
The wall of shelves behind my dining room table has been cleaned and rearranged over the past several days. The decor consists of many little independent cubbies and decorative bits of shelving of an eclectic character. They have contained a part of my teacups and pots collection and quite a variety and quantity of teas. They gather dust prodigiously, and last winter while I was away for 3 weeks, the mice found them all quite interesting. I didn't realize how much until this week. So the... Sign in to see full entry.
