Cable vs Dish: a technical question

So--this house I am looking at has two satellite dishes--the small ones, not the huge papa-san, SETI type dish antennas--and no cable. How does that work with internet? Would we be able to get high-speed connectivity? I would ask the dish companies, but then--they know what I want to hear, and how to make what they have to say sound like what I want to hear, whether it is exactly true or not. Therefore, I come to you, the Blogit folk who know these things and live with them. What's technically... Sign in to see full entry.

the log house

This is what it looks like from the back, where the cars park. The left door leads to the laundry room, the right leads into the kitchen. Looking from the dining area towards the small family room, past the steps from the living room, you can see the two sets of french doors onto the deck that runs across the whole front of the house. At the top of the stairs is the hall bathroom. Master bedroom is to the right... I will post the upstairs shots next time... As I go through the shots I got, I can... Sign in to see full entry.

loading the pictures now...

I have a number of shots of the interior of the log house, and will show you some of them shortly. I might also show them around to other realtors, and see if any of them are interested in hiring me freelance to take good shots of their houses for sale. The ones I see in the real estate books are usually totally unsatisfactory, and so are most of those I have seen online. I can do better for them, I am sure! This guy thinks that the photos that go in the multi-listings are generally never going... Sign in to see full entry.

A house?

Could be we have found one--a log house, two storeys with kitchen/dining and family room down, and 4 bedrooms up. It has some peculiarities... bit it also has a bit over 10 acres attached to it in an area zoned for 5-acre minimum lots. The 10 are all covered in trees and undergrowth. There is a wide lawn surrounding the house. A country lawn, full of dandylions, not a smooth turf by any means. There is a spacious deck off the woods-facing side of the house, with french doors opening from living... Sign in to see full entry.

Three small ribbons at the County Fair

Hopkin Greenfrog and Sunset Kayaker each got 2nd place reds, and the Broken Angel a white third. No firsts this year. You can see the first and last by links a couple of posts down from here--still don't have one for you of the kayak guy. As ever, the judges have their own personal ways of seeing, and couldn't resist giving the same things at slightly different angles recognition that might have more fairly gone to some other shots. Not necessarily mine--there were some great pictures that... Sign in to see full entry.

Bliss!

It is a good time to be up and active, purely heavenly, at 67 F in the morning... as it was at 4:30 this morning, when I got up, baked some corn in the oven (in the husk at 450 for about 40 minutes) and did a couple of loads of laundry. I went back to finish sleeping as the sky was getting bright, around 6, and got another 4 hours sleep. 10 AM now, thereabouts... It will be nice probably until around noon. Yesterday it was already around 90 by this time. The thermometer at the bank down the road... Sign in to see full entry.

When it's over 90 at 10 AM...

... you know it's gonna be warm. Yesterday, 104 F in Olympia, WA. Today there is a notion we can beat that by a couple more degrees. Yay for us. Husband is doing well... physical therapy this morning, his range of movement better than a couple of days ago. Physical therapist is not on my scowl list--happily, there are exceptions to those I ranted about earlier today in 'Loosely Speaking.' Sign in to see full entry.

So far, so good...

Husband is perkier today, though the numbing nerve block has worn off, and he is feeling the pain. He has one of those self-administered pain med buttons. And there is another to call the nurse any time. A friend of his was once in a similar circumstance, stuck in a hospital bed and wanting the nurse, he pushed the call button. No one came, so he pushed again... and again... and again... finally worked out that he was pushing the meds button... and didn't really give a damn any more if the nurse... What a day,...!

Husband went in for the knew knee this morning. We got up at the crack of morn to have him there by 6:45, for a couple of hours of prep, then they got him good and stoned... sadly, I couldn't think of any good questions to ask him in that... uh... mellowed out state. A couple of hours later, I was informed he was out of surgery and would be moved to his room in an hour or so. Three hours later, he had not rolled in, and there was no indication he would be imminently, so I made a couple of calls... Sign in to see full entry.

Suddenly last Sunday...

...I realized this is the week that entries for the Thurston County Fair photography show are due this week. Nothing was ready! I like it this way: no time to delay, to procratsinate, just time to get up the files, make prints, run to the frame shop, make choices, fill out forms... put things together, make more choices, run back to the frame shop with the six entries. Six pieces, no more than three the same category. Watching You (the triptych of the seal looking over the rock... counts as one... Sign in to see full entry.
