Sick

I have slept and coughed away the past day and a half since I got back to the San Diego hostel. Fever, fuggy-mindedness, lost appetite--what a waste of time and opportunity! I am quite annoyed, between coughing spells. But I think it is clearing. Tomorrow it will be time to get on a plane home. Looking forward to my cats... I can certainly recommend this hostel: USA Hostel which has houses in San Diego, Las Vegas, Hollywood and San Francisco. The place is very professional at the same time as... Final errands and packing this morning... off to the airport either this afternoon when my ride is headed past the airport anyway, with a stayover in a motel, or getting out of my own bed at 4AM and rousing a cranky driver to drive an hour+ for a 6:25 flight. Either way, the laptop doesn't fly with me this time. I remind you all, email me an address today, your own, ideally, and I might just get a postcard in the mail for you. I was down at the shop where my photos and photobooks are available... Sign in to see full entry.

When I first wrote this, it was a literal moment expressed in poetry. Now, I offer it as a metaphor relevant to all of us in transitions, in springtimes of our own. FIRST The longer day grows it, cell by cell, pushing upwards through the forest mould insistent… Rising warmth unfurls it-- bashful but persistent-- into the last of winter’s chill: shy and white, a single dog’s-tooth violet. This is where I was a year ago...

"Clear!" I want my heart to move to stir-- to be touched into excitement, to pangs of poignancy... I want the world to thrill me, make me laugh, delight me, inspire me to dance, to sing aloud, to share, to give from my own open heart... to reach out, touching other hearts grown stiff and cold to bring them back to life, to light-- where all our hearts began. Trapped by cat

After spending the morning in bed with laptop fired up, photos processing, words flowing... I am ready to get up. It is noon and really, I have things to do... there is even blue sky visible through the curtain, through the last-of-winter, earliest-spring woods... I was about to get up. Really, I was. Then it happened. As it so often does. Violetta Scampercat appeared like magic on the bed... nestled down along side me, and began to purr. She is content. She is warm. She is next to the Primary... what to do with a lamb shank

The one that was in my freezer came out today and somehow fell into a pot of boiling water... along with an onion and a half, and half an eggplant and some celery. Herbs leaped in after--garlic, oregano and tarragon, and some turmeric powder (had no rosemary, too bad!)... soy sauce and some sweet sherry, and finally, a dash of white balsamic vinegar. Olive oil and a can of tomato basil soup went in, too. And after long simmering, meat and bone parting company without resistance, it went into a... Sign in to see full entry.

I have mentioned before what my son and his friends get up to one weekend a month. I have compiled a few portraits of these Live Action Role Players in full regalia. Some... Twemlo, for one... are my son. http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/sets/72157623600652828/ Sign in to see full entry.

Transitions continue...

Today I have done mostly two things. First, I watched a pair of National Geographic dvds called CHINA: BEYOND THE CLOUDS. It is a beautiful documentary with sensitive and low-key narration, and the filming so unobtrusive that the people seem utterly unselfconscious throughout. The location is a small town in Yunnan Province, along the Yangtse River where it descends from Tibet, and flows on towards China's eastern coast some 2500 miles away. The events were filmed in 1991. I recommend it very... Sign in to see full entry.

Transitions... continue!

Makeover... modern version of Fairy Godmother's wand-effects. One can expect too much. And yet... Sometimes, changing something basic and long-accepted, is just the thing for getting a transition underway. Other times, it is a way to anchor transitions already accomplished. So... I have dyed my hair. OMG! WHAT??? You have gone UN-NATURAL? umm... Yes. I have gone... un-natural. It isn't like I never colored up before, but then there was no question of maybe trying to cover grey... It was... Sign in to see full entry.

How does this happen?

I got up to go make a cup of tea. I ended up with a reservation for a 9-day tour of Baja California, and a cup of tea. The Green Tortoise started some 40 years ago, a funky old bus that parked and picked up passengers only a few miles from where I now live, on its way from Seattle to San Francisco. It was an 'outlaw' bus company, when Trailways and Greyhound had between them tied up the official bus routes across America. They grew into a sort of alternative-lifestyle touring bus company with... Sign in to see full entry.
