a little more Wednesday...

Packing continues... I can't believe how much yarn and how many hats and things have been stashed in the house here and there... It fills the whole dufflebag that will be flying back with me on Saturday. And all kinds of other things have been turning up, too: a photo of my mother, aged 3 and hand-tinted... and another, of my dad in his Jr ROTC uniform, maybe 14 or 15 yrs old... my college and high school diplomas in cheap frames... I once had my kindergarten 'diploma' in the set, but it was... Sign in to see full entry.

Little Wednesday

This morning, finally I took my twisted shoulder to the doctor, and--after some trials of range of motion--got the word that probably it is tendonitis and that exercises will probably mend it in time. If, after 2-3 months, there is still sudden pain or lack of range of motion, then it will be time for further investigation to see if there is actually damage to the rotator cuff. That is one of the health issues I needed to address while here, and I put off getting appointments until this week.... Sign in to see full entry.

RubyTuesday...

I went to one of the best yarn stores anywhere today, and invested in my craft. Some would say, over-invested... but I feel success on the scale I need requires commitment. So... I have 7 new yarns, and a new, palm-wood hook that will add further pleasure to working the lovely colors and fibers. Then, I stopped at a superior local coffee place--it has a fireplace with cushy chairs, very nice on a cold day, for sittin' knittin' with coffee and an almond croissant at my elbow. Not at my elbow for... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday, Monday...

Two weeks maybe be too long... I'd be glad to be heading out of here today, rather than next Saturday, partly because I am tired of being cold and living in the grey, and... well, I am glad to be with my best cat... and to be moving towards actually moving, finally, finally and at last! I've been making more hats: Just before I left Colorado Springs, I found a store that may well be interested in acquiring some, so I've been assembling a collection worthy of notice, as I also assemble a goodly... Boxing Days

So far, the best place to get boxes for books is Starbuck's. The boxes are small and moderate sizes, suitable for books that are too heavy to fill larger boxes. It's a kindness to the postman, if nothing else. Large boxes are great for masses of lighter stuff like bedding and clothing. Tape is essential, and cheaper tape may be flimsy, tear easily, fall out of the guide tracks, and be mounted backwards, in the first place. Next time, I will pay the $1.20 more for the brand name. And that reminds... Sign in to see full entry.

Adjusting...

...to conditions in the old house, that are less discouraging as I clean up a few things, and encourage Himself to actually do some repairs. Patching a big hole in the ceiling makes a lot of difference, in how warm a room is, and in this very cold weather. This place is in deplorable condition, and smells of dankness and the presence of cats, but it is amazing how roasting a piece of pork, for instance, or cooking a big pot of soup improves the atomosphere. It also helps warm the place, which is... Sign in to see full entry.

I've gotten so far behind...

what with traveling, and being in the grungy old house, and sorting and laundering and prepping stuff to be removed... I have not had the head-energy to respond to the great comments on this blog, or to write many comments of my own on everyone else's, though reading them is a priority! You are so encouraging, so day-brightening! And I do thank you all, who have been keeping up with me, and letting me know you're there, and taking an interest! Sign in to see full entry.

Peeps

TAPS wrote about exploding hard-boiled eggs in the new microwave, the one that has The Power! and that reminded me of something my kids discovered a few years ago. Peeps Jousting. Peeps... those marshmallow duck-shaped candy treats that show up around Easter in an ever-increasing array of colors... Taste awful, unless you really really like sugar, corn syrup, and food coloring. But they are kinda cute, and very... Eastery. So, you take two peeps, any color, and give each one a toothpick stuck... Sign in to see full entry.

The Word Is Given!

and the word is YES! My son's landlady says they'd be glad to rent to me! Whoopeee! This sure puts a different complexion on what I am doing here this next couple of weeks! The move-in date will be in mid Feb, I think. And I can have at least one of my cats... maybe two, even. Thanks for all your good wishes and positive vibes and prayers--I am on my way home! Word is...

IF the half-house is actually available, not already promised elsewhere, I can swing it, and still actually eat, too. Not much else until some other things begin to pay off, but for the re-energizing effect of having a real home of my own again, I can live with the rest. In Olympia again now, looking at the household goods and such, determining what needs to go, what to stay. The house, a near-30 year old mobile home is... in a word, appalling. But after over a year away, I can now see what... Sign in to see full entry.
