As I'm sitting here, the Mountain goes from a ghost in the pre-dawn to a glowing edifice... from subtle rose to bright orange in front of a clear blue sky, and it is only just past 7 AM. A month back, this sight would have been an hour ago. I never know anymore when the clocks jump back, or forward, and when I wonder that, I also wonder why we still have this Daylight Savings Time. It served a purpose, once, but does it, still? Arizona doesn't recognize DST, yet, the Navajo Nation does. Well, it... Sign in to see full entry.

A view of the autumn garden
I am loading some shots taken in the past couple of days, of the morning glory vines gone to seed, mostly, but still hanging in there, hoping for a mild autumn before the real cold freezes them out. And how the deck looks, preparing for that cold: most of the shrubberies and potted plants have come inside. Some, back out since the weather has turned back to look on summer memories again, and some, I will leave to Nature's own schemes and cycles, and hope they will re-seed for next year. And... The deck is bare
...of most of the plants, and in the house, it's just a little more greenly crowded. Cold blew in on blustering wings yesterday afternoon, and the temperature forecast for overnight was in the area of freezing. A great cloud came over the sky from the west around sunset, dropping rain on the mountains, though today, the sky at 7AM is utterly clear, and no new snow is visible on the Peak. Later today, tomorrow, Monday--weatherman promises high temps pleasantly warm, up into the low 80sF. Weather... Sign in to see full entry.

Early morning Coffee Party
She said she'd stop by on her way to school... a neighbor, garrulous on the sidewalk, and friendly, and eager to be neighborly... All summer we've had a 'date' for her to come by for coffee, but she's been busy with a grandbaby and a guy and the birds nesting on her roof that assault her by air when she comes out on her porch... Last week, she said she would come by on Friday on her way to school. This morning, she rang the bell, and I was ready for her with fresh coffee and orange marmalade... Sign in to see full entry.

yummm...
I tried something new tonight. I baked some lovely lean loin pork chops in a coating of the very best hummus... Actually, Sabra brand spinach and artichoke hummus. They baked at 325 for about half an hour, and came out moist and delicious! It worked out very well indeed. I recommend it! Sign in to see full entry.
Berry, berry smooth...
I thought I'd share a recipe with you this morning: For breakfast, I tossed some raspberries, black berries, blue berries and strawberries into the blender with some chocolate soy milk (which I bought by accident when I intended to get almond milk) and a handful of Cheerios. No extra sweetener. The Cheerios (which around here we refer to as 'donut seeds') get soft in the milk, so they aren't grainy, but do provide some thickening so it is more like a shake. It tasted good, and I am hoping all... Sign in to see full entry.

and yesterday's photos are up!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Another gorgeous day has begun. The mountain still has a little snow in the crevices, and it is sweater-chilly down here in the flat-lands, but the day is warming, and will maybe be around 80 by afternoon. It couldn't be lovelier! I've added an extra tidbit to the photostream, for fans of Violetta... Sign in to see full entry.

A fine fall day
The past two days have been perfectly lovely! Cool, after a chilly morning, kindly weather, clear skies... I now have both Madame LaDarque and a couple of blue jays taking an interest in the peanuts I have on offer. Today she took one from my fingers with her mouth, and a second, she reached out with her delicate fingers, and grabbed, then made off across the yard with both of them in her mouth. I think she jams the first one halfway down her throat, to fit the next between her jaws. Today, it... Sign in to see full entry.

I spoke too soon...
Rain came again yesterday afternoon, in force with wind and a scattering of pea-sized hail, lightning and thunder flashing and rolling... Not a long storm, but definitely a doozy! But there was only the one, and it didn't last even an hour as it swept from south to north along the Front Range. The heat, however, and summer, are definitely passed: I look out on the Peak this morning, and there is snow on the slopes even down past treeline, and a mantle of cloud over the highest points. All this... Sign in to see full entry.
