Photos of the Mountain

All the photos are up now, though as I went through them, I was already planning the next trip, the next photo session, for the things I somehow didn't think to get, like the switchbacks. Next weekend I can't do it, though, because the road will be closed for a few days, while some production company films scenes for the next FAST AND FURIOUS movie. I can't imagine them truly driving that upper highway at any kind of speed. When they say 10mpg on the curves, they're not kidding! It is not a road... Sign in to see full entry.

I've been to the Mountain...

and back again: a 6 hour jaunt up the Pike's Peak Highway to the summit, which is 14,110 elevation--as elevated as I have ever been! I walked around, saw where the cog railway arrives to, checked out the gift shop and bought (for $3) a pint of water. It's important to stay hydrated, and I'd probably have felt the altitude less if I'd had that water before I went up! The road is in good condition. It has some amazing switchbacks: when they say 10 mph, you go 10 mph! Thegrades are not spectacular... Sign in to see full entry.

Cool and quiet

...another late summer morning. The set for CYMBELINE will be struck at 9--as in, dis-assembled, not by lightning. My Roomer is part of the crew, so I will be driving him over to the field. Perhaps I will get some more pictures then, of the Rock Ledge Ranch buildings, which are quite interesting. Charlie gave me a list of the shows he has been involved with since changing his major to Theater a couple of years ago: (in no particular order) Taming of the Shrew, Inspector General, Doctor Faustus,... What a storm!

The sun was still high in the sky as great dark clouds moved slowly down from the north. I've been hoping for some rain: It's been days since a good rainfall and dramatic thunderstorm, after a month or so of having them nearly every day, and now, a week or more of dry. We need the water, this region has been in drought for a couple of years. From the deck, I could see how heavy the clouds were up towards Monument, and that they were unloading a lot of rain. By now, I know it is no guarantee that... Sign in to see full entry.

Evolution of comfort

My bed is evolving towards being a real and proper bed. When I moved in, it was a twin airbed and foam pad, and very uncomfortable. I don't like having a small bed that moves in response to my motions. And it was so low to the ground, getting out of bed in the morning really meant getting up, and it was not easy on my knees, not so young as they used to be. I found, at an estate sale, a box spring, and risers, and that was great! ditched the airbed, and put the foam on top of the box and risers.... Sign in to see full entry.

CYMBELINE-- Deus on Machina...

This is the last week for the theater-in-a-tent production of Shakespeare's seldom-seen CYMBELINE, so it was almost a surprise we were able to get tickets, even comp tickets (Charlie is props master for the show) for last night's performance. It was a great time! The actors were excellent--they had three Equity actors, who are the more experienced professionals that often grace an amateur production. All of the cast were so good, it was hard to guess which were those three. Some people take... Sign in to see full entry.

A stroll in the garden...

This one is for espcially for Kabu and Taps and CCT and all of you who love gardens. This photo session was inspired by finding, finally, a blossom on the Morning Glory vines, the ones I planted from seed. The Scarlet Runner beans were a total bust... I blame the wind, but still, it might have been some unknown factor. I have planted the last of the magic beans and set them on the back porch, where there is less direct wind. We'll see... http://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C Enjoy! Sign in to see full entry.

The Knitting Circle

Every Wednesday morning, a group of knitters meets in a long, narrow room, at a long, narrow table, chatting and schmoozing over everyone's various projects. I have been going for several weeks now, one of the few who crochets. The long, narrow room is at the back of The Wooly Works, a very nice yarn shop with nothing but very nice yarns. And the two ladies who own and operate it are pleased to have crafted goods to sell, as well as yarns. And so, my hats have a new consignment home, and a whole... Sign in to see full entry.
