This is my third garden season in this house. Previous attempts to grow vines on the deck, for shade and color, and for vegies--sugar snap peas and red runner beans--were sad failures: winds here are punishing and dry, and nothing survived but a few morning glories which were quite lovely while they lasted. This year, though, morning glories, nasturtiums and zinnias have all sprouted strongly, and there are even a few sprouts of Japanese Lantern plants poking into sight. In the cool of the...
