Hereafter it shall be known as Adnohr Day--

The first day of snow on the ground! The temperature is below 20, but I am not going out on the porch to see just how low the thermometer says. According to Accuweather it is 12F and the range is high 22, low 5. Forecast is "much cooler" today than yesterday when the range was 65-13F. There are two inches of "partly cloudy" on the back porch. The sparrows and finches have found the seed dishes that I took off the rail lest yesterday's wind blow the seed all away. And here it is...

Blew in around noon, and by evening, the temperature had dropped ~40 F. The wind blew all day, the leaves racing madly down the street, and anything in the air was flying sideways. Definitely a day to keep the cat in. Then the snow came in... not a lot, maybe an inch on the back porch but not on the rail which is so much more exposed to the wind. Looking at the street in front of the house, the gleam from the street lights shows how very slippery it is out there. I'm glad I don't have to go... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking up too early

Just about every day, I wake up just before or during the earliest moments of dawn. I resist... I don't want to return to the world of stuff I have to do, to deal with... But Violetta insists, and my body nudges with this urge and that... I struggle out of my warm nest, and face it all. If it is early enough, there are stars--just the brightest ones, and planets that glimmer in the deep blue of pre-dawn. Family drama... well... maybe

It seems it has been a dramatic week among my grandsons. The younger one, 14 or so, has declared to the family that he is, in fact, she. Has always been, and now wants everyone to know it. It is no big surprise, though for some time now, we have suspected this kid leaned toward gayness. In any case, it is not hard to believe nor to accept, because that's the kind of family we are. The older one, 16, has this same week declared to his family that he is gay. There have never been signs of that...... Sign in to see full entry.

TWO little children...

I replenished the bird feeders

--two of those flat dishes made for under flower pots--and now there are a dozen house finches and sparrows leaping and ducking and filling their crops on this cool morning. There are a few peanuts stuck in the mounds of seeds, too, for the jays and the shy squirrel that sometimes stops by, but he is nowhere near as trusting as Madame was. I miss her daily visits. I stocked a little treasure chest sort of box with Heath bars, Mounds bars, and Reese's peanutbutter cups. All my favorites, in case... Sign in to see full entry.

A day of accomplishment

For several days I have been out of one of my meds, the one for the diabetes. Getting it refilled--well, I realized I needed to deal with it more than a week ago, but here I am in Colorado, having been prescribed this stuff by a doctor here during the 90 day guest membership, this health provider having a reciprical arrangement with mine back in Washington. The 90 days were up in early September, so I wasn't sure I'd be able to go through these folks again. Would I have to contact the Washington... Sign in to see full entry.

a lowering sky

That's what it's been today: no mountains, just a heavy layer in greys light and dark hovering over the world. Temperatures today are around 30F cooler than yesterday, and it looks... ominous! I smell snow on the air. Well, it is only days away from halloween. I suppose I should invest in some treats or rig up some tricks. The day has gone into reading another indie book for review--at least, at last I found one I can give higher than average marks--and calling around in search of a vet clinic I...
