Mission accomplished!

It was a lovely warm and sunny day, and we made it to the Denver Art Museum with ten minutes to spare before our 11am entry time to the Star Wars costume exhibit. Happily, photography was permitted: https://flic.kr/s/aHskXsq7gn Here are some of the photos I brought back. After we got home, Charlie got busy building the flicker decoy wall, a sort of flat box about 5 inches deep and 2ftx2ft wide, and then mounted it on the wall for that hard-headed bird to make a new hole and a new nest without... April Snow and a Sunset

A visit to flickr will show you yesterday's snow and tonight's sunset. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/b4o09P The snow was mostly melted by afternoon from the streets, and would have been gone today except for the additional dusting last night. Spring temperatures tomorrow should finish it off. And tomorrow, inshallah, Charlie and I will make it to that museum exhibit. Inshallah... I first came across this when I was a child reading stories of the Hajj, a sort of cheery Muslim wise man.... Sign in to see full entry.

End of the day

The snow was not a lovely surprise this morning, and spoiled the plans I woke excited about until I saw it was not gonna happen. However, we were able to reschedule, and by Thursday morning the snow of this morning which became the slush of this afternoon, and will be the ice of tonight should be well gone. So we will go to that exhibit before it leaves town after this week. If you missed the previous post, it's the Star Wars costumes exhibit. By mid-day the road was merely wet, so we went out... A dangerous link...

Here is a link to the online auction site I visit now and then. The danger is how easy it is to jump in and then get over-excited... I generally don't bid on things I can't go personally to pick up, but sometimes the deals are pretty amazing, and little stuff from other farther away auctions often are not unreasonable for shipping. But be sure to check before bidding! Some of them are, in fact, ridiculous, and they prepack before the auction, so you can rarely ask them to reduce shipping by... Sign in to see full entry.

So much for driving to Denver today...

Charlie and I have tickets for 11am this morning, to visit the Star Wars costume exhibit that ends this week. Nearly a foot of new snow on the ground--and trees and cars and streets--suggests we will not be going 60 miles to Denver this morning. Adnohr, you'd love it! I might have to go out back and shake the snow off the lilacs that are bending under its weight something fierce. I hope they don't break. Sign in to see full entry.

Tomorrow we vote.

Colorado Springs is voting for city council members. I really want to vote, but neither of the candidates in my district would be representing my values and interests. Not even a little. I'm asking around, getting other voters' opinions and perspectives. Voting at every level matters. Local communities set the tone that generate state legislatures, and they are far more powerful than some of us have realized until lately, only voting in, maybe, races for governor, and Presidential election... Snow day photos

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/5G860z It has ceased to snow, though it was huge soft clumps instead of flakes for a while, so I took some photos, then that little guy showed up... Sign in to see full entry.

It snew... again.

Just when I'm looking for rising temperatures and raising my handkerchief and putting bells on to celebrate Spring--this, again. And it is still doing it. It seems not to phase Mama EACDove, she is still sitting up there keeping a shiny black eye on me when I peer out at her. A couple of times I have seen a second adult, perhaps Papa EACDove and I wonder if he takes a turn on the nest sometimes, or simply hangs around with her because they're mates and it's what they do. I was invited to go to... Sign in to see full entry.

What a week!

Here it is, Friday... This week Charles and I went to two shows: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and last night, THE CRUCIBLE. They are essentially the same story, a tragic victory of truth and devotion to it, over all the temptations to let it slide, to save one's life by accepting the lie of flawed authority, distorted power. If you've never seen Arthur Miller's THE CRUCIBLE, well, the title tells it all: a concentration of common, impure material confined in a small bowl and intensely heated to the... Morning on the Mountain

I woke to another of those fiery dawns this morning, but by the time I was ready to get a picture of it, the drama had shifted to the other side of the sky. Here are a few shots of sunrise today on Pike's Peak: https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/35UJ77 Sign in to see full entry.
