Well I suppose one has to move with the times . My alarm clock has a shaker which one can put under the pillow and it will bang away until one switches it off .Not that I am going to use it.

Glad you're feeling better. Your Dot is interesting but probably not for me right now.

Re: Kabu,
The Echo Dot is an Amazon thing, I don't know if it is available the same in Canada as here.
Here is a page to explain it all. Note that there are potential privacy issues which I avoid by not enabling things like the Drop In feature. I use mine for alarm clock and timer features, for music, news and weather reports, and some fun silly things. I don't have it connected to my house features as I don't have a 'smart house' set up to connect that way. Keeping it simple keeps it safe.

You do need to set it up and make changes with the Alexa App which requires a smart phone. Since I don't have one of those, I make any changes when Charlie can come over with his smartphone. But I rarely make changes.
The Dot can be given one of three 'wake up words.' Alexa, Echo, or Computer. You say the name/word to get its attention. But that is why you hear about Alexa for instance. It can be a problem if you have someone in the house named Alexa, or the name comes up on a TV show.

Computer: Earl Gray, hot!
Now that was a catch phrase. It's amazing how life on earth is becoming more and more reminiscent of being on the Enterprise, coasting along at less than warp speed. Three cheers for the 40 degree temps!
