Saturday afternoon

...and now it is raining, Bunnabee has spent most of the day upstairs where the action is. It seems she likes to be around other critters. It is now apparent that she is not over the wire-chewing habit, which I discovered when attempting to bunny-proof the area around my comfy chair where I sit with laptop and lamp, and have a heavy duty extension cord/surge protector with a tangle of wires and plugs around it. Several have been at least nipped, and some very thin ones, severed. Sadly, they are... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday again

One more day to prepare for my house guest who will be here around midnight tonight... Bunnabee will return to her previous dwelling for the duration so my guest won't have to share the bathroom except with me. There is another full bathroom upstairs en suite, but the shower power is pathetic compared to the thundering fall of the downstairs one! Embers is clearly feeling perkier, eating more and not sitting around all closed in on herself as cats do when they are out of sorts. Animals other... Sign in to see full entry.

Animal House

Embers had her appointment with the vet today, got an antibiotic shot, a steroid shot, and some sub-cutaneous hydration which she needed. Vet says her mouth looks better than he expected it to. I think I will try encouraging to try new, softer foods or at least flavors, since she started avoiding the chicken-flavored medication. That medicine can be blended with any of 300 flavors... Vet has one client cat who favors 'buttered popcorn.' Embers did investigate, even licked my buttered toast this... Sign in to see full entry.

Playing with eggplant...

There has been a lot of cheap eggplant in the store lately, and very reasonably priced fresh artichokes. Came up with this: ~sourdough bread smeared with tomato paste and olive oil ~artichoke hearts (I cut these in half, bake them in the oven, remove the fuzzy bits, then scrape the leaves in the usual way, and use the hearts for this sandwich.) ~slab of eggplant, baked whole (pierce or cut so it doesn't explode in the oven I recommend adding cheese if you like it... feta would be good, or swiss... Ups and downs...

Some Wednesdays feel a lot like Mondays. Maybe it's that I haven't had my coffee yet, but the brain has been semi-active since 5am, and is still not quite lucid enough for getting things done today. Charlie and I are planning to ebay some costuming and props items as a quick way to generate some income, but today he is down with some upper respiratory plague, so it won't start today. Bunnabee is making repeated assaults on the gate across the stairs since she can't get through the railing any... Sign in to see full entry.

Bunnabee news

I have a structural problem... Well, not me personally... Well, at least, not one relevant to this situation. It's the house. It's the stairwell. It's the bunny. I felt very clever finding a way to install an expansion gate she can't knock over or shove aside, right at the bottom of the second level of steps. But... bunny: She jumps through the rail from the top of the lower steps to the wrong side of the gate, and hop-presto, there she is in the living room again! So, I have to cleverly come up... Patches looks around

I was going to sit downstairs with Patches, after breakfast, but as I sat down to eat, I heard a significant thump from the lower part of the house. Breakfast had to wait while I checked into that sound. Patches was ready to explore her new surroundings. She had already checked out the bathroom, rearranged her furnishings, provided ample fertilizer for the deck garden--as rabbits do--and bounded out to see what else there is in the world. I followed: She can't explore unsupervised because there... Sign in to see full entry.

Patches has arrived

She is a yearling Holland lop, brown and white and I am guessing nearly 10 lbs. She seems quite comfortable in the downstairs bathroom, which is a larger space than she is used to, and has room for all her gear as well. She has a nice wooden chew toy to demolish. She needs to chew stuff to keep her teeth from over-growing. Because of this, I removed the wooden doll house from her reach, all that nice tender, chewable wood! that was in the guest room on a low table. It has relocated to the... Sign in to see full entry.

The deck garden in my living room

The temperature outside is in the low 40s F, the snow that was on the ground this morning is gone, and maybe things will warm up towards spring today, again, heading into a nice weekend. But I won't set out the plants on the deck again today. They look nice in the house, and don't seem to have any objections to the indoor climate. Photos are up, both before and after the freeze. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/oY52wk I have not seen the doves on the deck lately, but the little birdhouse... Sign in to see full entry.

Yep, snowing again...

I sigh, but with the satisfaction that all the tender plants are safe inside, gracing the living room with their color and oxygen exchange. The bunny is not here yet, so they are safe from nibbling teeth. By Saturday, hopefully, when Patches moves in, they will be outside again. A former housemate of Charlie's moved to Olympia several years ago, and at the end of this month, she is coming back here for a friend's wedding. She will be here 10 days, and I offered her my guest room. Of course, at... Sign in to see full entry.
