might be worth something like half the asking price IF the owner demolished the 'house' and other structures, and carried the wreckage and all the other trash and dead wood and the rotten hay pile away. The best part of the place was a sign on the door that said BEWARE STRANGE DOG. None of the buildings was safe to go up to, let alone into. At any rate, we did speak to the agent who came out to show it to us, and he will be our agent, he isn't a listing agent, and will be looking out for things... Sign in to see full entry.
going back to bed...
My sense of 'home' is in a state of disorientation, what with flying through two 'home' airports yesterday, spending a week+ 'back home' and now... back home from that. And I can't just sit here and recover, there are sooo many things I have to get done just about right now... on 3 hours of sleep, and with a cat who most definitely does not want me out of her sight. Time for a nap. Sign in to see full entry.

Ashfall and Acreage
This morning ash was falling, and a pall still hangs over Seattle... So many fires, north, south, and east of here. When we fly out tonight if I have a south-facing window, I may be able to see the one burning along the Columbia River. Started, I'm hearing, by a couple of kids throwing firecrackers off a cliff. It has now hopped over the river to Washington, hard to imagine as that is: the Columbia is a wide, wide river! Our Elsa is now loving pulling herself up to her feet by the edge of the... One more day...
This trip is coming to an end: We fly out tomorrow evening, back to Colorado where events have not stood still. Charlie and I have each gotten the landlore's email that he's raising our rent by $150 each as of November. That seems exorbitant to me, and inspires me now to look aroiund again for a house worth buying. Charlie and I have to discuss whether we want to share such a house, or each go our own way. Then we have to find something suitable for either or both of us, considering that we have... Sign in to see full entry.

Would I move back to the Northwest?
There are things I greatly miss, like the tall green trees, the wide open waters, and really knowing my way around from 30+ years living here. Mount Rainier on the horizon... the ocean just beyond the opposite horizon... hills and lakes and islands between, and ferries and whales... The Olympics silhouetted against a long clear amber sunset... Idyllic summer weather! Yesterday the high temperature was 76F and there is enough moisture in the air to be not unpleasantly, steamily humid, but my skin... Sign in to see full entry.

Long day
The night before--"We need to get out early tomorrow morning." "I'll be up at 6 and let the dogs out." 9am--"Charlie is making breakfast..." 9:40am-- "Are you ready to go?" "Yep, all ready!" "Okay, we'll go as soon as we walk the dogs..." 10am--"Dogs had a nice walk... just need to change Elsa... just need to give Elsa a bit of a feed... Have to put the stroller in the boot..." (You can take the gal out of England, but...) 10:20am--We get out early. We don't have Fred Meyer stores in Colorado,... Sign in to see full entry.

A day with Elsa
Like most babies, ever day has sunshine and showers with quick transitions--but mostly, she is the happiest baby I have ever seen! At 9 months, she is inquisitive and experimental, exploring every thing the world places within her sight and grasp. She looks at everything, touches what she can, and clearly delights in particular toys, in her own hands and feet, and spent a few minutes feeling my finger tips as we held hands. Food time is not what it used to be when her mommy was her age. She is... Sign in to see full entry.
Cats
Charlie and I arrived in Seattle around 12:15 and were out the door with luggage in tow to find Charlie's dad right there waiting... At that hour, no airport cops were there to push him off. At his house we were greeted by the two cats living there now. One of them is the last of the herd we once had in Olympia, who knows us both, and is very nearly as old as Embers. As soon as he realized we were not folk who are normally around--he fled to a safe place. The other is Gemma, Marika's rescue cat... Sign in to see full entry.

eclipse photos
We only saw it ~90% of total, so no corona, no dark hole in the fabric of the heavens. These were taken aiming the camera through safety glasses, and it was so very very far away! Then there were the leaf-shadows... https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/3P56HV Sign in to see full entry.
The first batch is out!
It only took 20 hours, in fact, so we may even have time for another batch before we fly out tomorrow evening. The fruit makes great snacks without reconstituting, and we'll take some with us when we go. The beef is very strange, dry, so we properly packed and sealed that away for future use. Our Embers as ever hated the trip to the vet. She gets car-sick every time. The vet says her teeth are again the problem, and will likely have to come out. But since we caught it at the start of the cycle... Sign in to see full entry.
