Weekend adventures

My high school buddy came down from the mountains to spend the weekend here. We made reservations for lunch at a little authentic German restaurant here in the Springs: Uwe. Reservations required! I had a German coffee--very potent and delicious, served with a dollop of real whipped cream on top! Then, sauerbraten, red cabbage and dumplings. We each ate about half and took the rest home, so while it adds up, it's actually twice as many meals as ordered, so half the cost! Today, to escape the 90s... Sign in to see full entry.

The Quest Giver

To earn my free pass to Fan Expo, I was there to help at the Alliance tables, and not being enough of an expert on the ins and outs of the LARPing itself, I put on The Hat and went out and about the Expo. The Hat is a thing that attached to the hat I was already wearing, and was a giant yellow exclamation mark. This is a symbol well-known to those who play fantasy games online. It signifies that the person under it is a non-player-character--NPC--who gives quests to player characters. Walking... Sign in to see full entry.

Tomorrow and tomorrow...

I thought I was going to write this yesterday, but no huge surprise, yesterday was all about recovery and vegetating. Well, my brain is working again, and here we are! The first thing about Denver's Fan Expo is that from the nearest parking, it's a heck of a long walk to get to the actual front doors of the event center. It's exhausting just to arrive! The walk away at the end of the day is torturous, particularly for someone with accessibility issues: even with the walker, even with benches... Sign in to see full entry.

Home from the latest adventure!

I swore last time that I'd never go to Fan Expo in Denver again, but Charlie needed to get up there, was scheduled to work at the Colorado Alliance LARP booth Thursday, Friday and Saturday. He got a free entry to the thing, and then because I also offered to help out, so did I. We just now got home, after 9pm, and so I'll save most of the report for tomorrow, but the highlights included having chats with Catherine Tate, Andy Serkis, and Richard Dreyfuss. ("Doctor Who" watchers will recognize... Sign in to see full entry.

Ready for another adventure

Well, almost ready: I just have to get dressed, have breakfast, finish tetrising things into the car... We are off to Fan Expo in Denver this morning, something I'd probably not go to without the free passes we're getting for volunteering at the Alliance LARP table for part of the weekend. It's a dress-up event, too, so I've got my hobbit garb, and the walker is decked out once again as a garden cart with a sign on the front: NO ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON PARTY BUSINESS. Of the celebrities due to... Sign in to see full entry.

What goes up...

...eventually comes down. Like the temperature overnight. It's a lovely morning after yesterday's less extreme but still too-hot heat. Yesterday was another Jugger League Day with five Colorado teams participating. Charlie's team, the Marauders, had only five members present so by the end of the day they were pretty tired, and did not have a particularly impressive score. But some of the other teams were gleeful that they'd finally beat the Marauders! One thing I quite like about the juggerers:... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday adventures

Sitting here at Charlie's workshop, a nice quiet moment until he's done with today's projects and ready to head out again. When he needs to be here for hours I sometimes go home and let him take the bus home whenever he's ready, but today he only will be here a couple of hours or less. This morning I woke up in the cool of the day, got all my deck and back porch plants watered--drenched!--and did a bit of transplanting of the morning glory sprouts to spread them further. There are two sweetpea... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot is back

It still isn't as bad as some other 'heat-domed' parts of the country, but all weekend and most of this week it's 90s for us. Too hot for me when it gets over 80, I'm a heat wuss, when we get to 100s+ here, I'm going to have to find a/c places or go up into the mountains. So far, though, I can either go out driving with a/c on full blast, or downstairs where the temps in the house can be 15, even 20 degrees cooler. I hope your Monday heralds a happy, productive, and most of all, cool enough... Sign in to see full entry.

busy Saturday!

It's hottish today, high 80s, and the clouds are building towards storm to the west. I've just gotten home from another treasure-hunting trip to the thrift store where I found a nice big pot in which to plant the grape vine that's still confined in its little plastic pot. I'll do that in the cool of evening. I've heard that transplanting during the day is harder on the roots. I dropped Charlie off at the workshop and determined that indeed I did not have any more of the yarn to finish the cradle... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning dreamings

Here it is evening after a chilly grey day. The temperature has been around 60 and there's been a light rain all day. After days in the 90s, even verging on 100, this is a relief and I wish it could be shared with you baking in the heat this week. Waking and eating breakfast early, I ended up going back to bed and having interesting dreams of traveling and seeing a huge Saturn in the sky along with but bigger than the moon. I remember putting a lot of effort into finding my camera and a... Sign in to see full entry.
