And here we are, once again all packed and ready to head out to my old 'home' airport, SeaTac. So many times, I have flown out of it, and into it, it is so familiar, I know where the best shops are and the best food spots. We will have a good couple of hours to hang out before time for our flight. Between 2 and 3 hours later, we will come into the Denver airport, DIA, my now 'home' airport. This one, too, has become very familiar. After a long long day of travel, after much anxiety, of... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas Eve! How ready are you?
First thing this chilly Seattle morning, I laid out all the gifts to be wrapped and tagged. Now I have a better idea of what needs to be last-minute sought and bought, all on what has to be the worst day for shopping all year. I enjoy shopping all year, and making, creating gifts for this season. When the official season is on, though, I resent the great Commercialism, resist playing into it. But sooner or later, I do seem to always get caught by it: will everyone be happy? Will everyone get... Sign in to see full entry.

Seattle and Elsa
A lot of time on the road today, going south to Tacoma and back again. Highways could have been worse. By the end of it, Elsa was pretty cranky, but is quite happy now we are home again. Elsa turned one year old on Dec 12, and I've been lucky to have been with her for some weeks her first year in England, at 3 weeks and 3 months, then again in Seattle at the end of summer. There have been 'skypings' from time to time, too. So she knows me, smiles and reaches for hugs and interacts with me... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking in Seattle
You know that first waking in a different place, when you open your eyes and are surprised at your surroundings...? Oh, right, I forgot I spent hours packing and driving to the airport and crammed into a little plane seat and waiting and waiting and waiting to get on the plane, to start moving, to get to the runway, to get to the ground, to the gate, for all the people ahead of me in the plane to get their gear and go... My body thinks it is well past time to be up and breakfasted, though my... Sign in to see full entry.

Heading out...
In an hour I'll be going to collect Charlie from work, make a quick stop for him to buy some much-needed shoes, then we are headed north to Denver International Airport for a 6:10 flight. We have discovered that driving up and parking at one of the private lots is cheaper than getting the airport shuttle from here, and much easier than looking for a friend to drive us up there and then meet us when we get back. So, plants are all watered and likely to make it through a week of neglect. Embers... Sign in to see full entry.

Amtrak derailment in Washington State
This is happening at about 7:40 this morning along Interstate 5 between Olympia and Tacoma. I know this bridge, have driven under it many, many times in the 30+ years I lived in the area. I have been in touch with several friends in Olympia and no one I know was involved. Charlie's dad would very possibly have been there on his usual commute to Olympia had he not been working in Seattle today. While most eyes and reports are focused on the accident site, no one is talking about the southbound... Sign in to see full entry.
ANGELS IN AMERICA parts one and two
I first tried reading this play by Tony Kushner several years ago and didn't make it past the first scene. The central character of the scene was the lawyer Roy Cohn, one of the most despicable men on Earth in his time. He was real, Joseph McCarthy's right hand in the 50s whose claim to fame, by the character's words, was getting Ethel Rosenberg executed. Every word from the character's mouth is so mean, so evil and nasty, I set the play down and never came back to it until this past weekend.... Sign in to see full entry.

Another morning, another photo shoot...
There were not a lot of grand or glorious clouds this morning to light up the early sunlight, but there were other bits of loveliness to make getting up before the sun worth it! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/G66175 Sign in to see full entry.

Back-up Plans
It is uncertain what will change in internet usage if net neutrality is lost. The simplest thing is that we will all have to pay more for how we use it here. This makes me very aware of how much of my social contact is here, online, and how much I'd lose without computer or internet access. Also, I have long held that the power of the consumer is to refuse to consume, hence, my back-up plan: If you would like to stay in touch, whatever becomes of the internet, please pm me your address and/or...
