We finally ran another freeze-dry cycle: strawberries, pineapple, apple, ground pork, ground bison, and turkey burgers. Most came out quite well, but there are notes to remember. First, pineapple has to be cut small or the outside dries before the inside, and ends up insulating the inside of the larger pieces so that after 28 hours cycling through freezing and drying, the inside is still wet. Second, same note regarding larger chunks of ground meat. Next time, smaller, flatter pieces or even... Sign in to see full entry.

Snow like powdered sugar
It won't last out the day, wth temperatures expected to be well above freezing, though not much above cold. Charlie applied for a simple little part time job at the storage place where we keep our Other Stuff, and interviewed yesterday, and got the job! It is ideal for his needs, leaving him plenty of time for his greater interests, paying enough to keep bills current and groceries on the shelf. It is within walking distance, and he has always liked walking. A big bonus is that he already is... Sign in to see full entry.

A useful Sunday...
Charlie and I went to a soup and bread party yesterday. It was the kick-off party for a local charity effort that supports, among other recipients, the local theaters. This party was at the Springs Ensemble Theater which lately presented AFTERLIFE, the show that used the big black bird puppet that Charlie constructed for them. The folks at SET have produced several award-winning shows in the past few years. They have high and professional standards, and have used Charlie's talents several time.... Sunday morning sky and Time
When I got up this morning, Venus graced the eastern sky like a gem on dark blue velvet, and the huge bright full moon was descending the western side of the sky. This happens regardless of what clocks tell us is 'correct' time. Suddenly today, several of my clocks are telling 'correct' time, even as several others have suddenly become 'incorrect' and will probably remain so until spring. Time is real to the physical world, marking the movements of stars and planets and moons through space; the... Sign in to see full entry.

Internet is back!
It was down for about 24 hours, for no reason that was our faults. Bill has been paid, router works, just no connection. Very exasperating! And a sad reminder how easy it is to be too dependent on onlineness. Embers is troubled by her teeth again... This time the vet has recommended a topical, transdermal cream so we don't have to do the shot again so soon, and so we don't have to attempt to get it in her mouth. This is to be massaged into the inside of the ear, in the outer ear, not the inner.... Sign in to see full entry.

Watching again, my favorite "Pride and Prejudice"
It is usually referred to as the Colin Firth version, but in fact, he shares the top billing honors with Jennifer Ehle who is the most charming Elizabeth Bennet ever, and the actress has the most subtly expressive eyebrows! The 'odious Mr. Collins' is played with delightfully smarmy unctuousness by David Bamber. I've seen him as Cicero in the series, ROME, and in other character roles especially in British productions. Alison Steadman is a stridently near-hysteric Mrs. Bennet, and Benjamin... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Halloween!
https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/060Hhb I remember chilly Halloweens in childhood, deeply disappointed at having to wear a warm coat over my costume. Nowadays, kids' costumes are more clever, more thorough, like full-body dinosaurs and medieval cloaks--not just a cheap taffeta one-piece item. The evening grows dark... where are the kiddies? This year I have little party favor things instead of candies to hand out. Once again this year, Charlie has advised against bic lighters or other... Sign in to see full entry.

Laundry and Drama and Some Exciting Ideas!
First of all, after going out for a little shopping while the landlord and his lady were here fiddling the electrics, I came home to find them gone and the stacker ready for the first load. So far, all seems to be working well. Then, an hour before it, I recalled a production my friend Joanne was in, the final performance tonight. It was MACBETH, presented in a rectangle of chairs set close around a 5x7 rug. The audience is basically on the stage a very few feet from the action. The cast of 6... Sign in to see full entry.
Monday, Monday...
It's noon on the Monday when the little snowballs began to roll. Manafort and Gates are only the start, and the snow has been unsettled for a while on this particular mountainside. Meanwhile, my washer/dryer stands quietly at the bottom of the stairs awaiting the landlord's attentions to the electrical outlet. He came by the other day and determined that the outlet needs to be connected to the circuit box. It is functional and the wires are there, just not connected. He will detach the 240 dryer... housecleaning...
I was looking through my files for a particular photo, one that in fact I didn't find, but I am once more overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of images I made into cards and books and then put on the shelf. I have decided to offer them in quantities of 5/$12, and 10/$20 assorted images. Interested parties can choose from forests, landscapes, mountains, flora and fauna, architecture, ancient or modern... Among flora are flowers and trees and leaves... Or Photographer's Choice. I have just been... Sign in to see full entry.
