The Duolingo Chinese lessons are progressing. I find I am good with numbers, great with matters relating to food and basic greetings, but not so much with introductions and advanced greetings. It eaches, all at the same time, the sounds and tonalities, and the characters for each item. This makes my brain stretch, and is probably very good for it: I am probably delaying the onset of dementia by several months! I have been watching a Japanese docu-drama about the Tensho Boys' Embassy. This was an... Sign in to see full entry.

Mole-eyes
Some nights I dread going to bed, hate the whole 'trying to go to sleep' thing--even when I don't have to be up by a certain time. And of course, as soon as one starts to think about it, bang! game on! It was one of those, last night. So this is another day dealing with whatever it brings, with only a few hours of sleep. Still, no more doves on the deck. I have begun working with the Duolingo language learning thing. I have been learning Chinese, and also because I have been watching some... Not cool
I don't think I needed a flat tire today. But if I did, I needed to have it in front of the house. Which it is. And I needed to have 1 more AAA service before renewing--next week, which I do. And I needed not to have to be anywhere right away, which I don't. Also, I needed someone to drive by while I was trying to figure out why the truck was driving weird, and tell me I had a flat. And she did. All in all, the lucky outweighs the unlucky today. But geeze... Kabu goes away and everything goes to... Sign in to see full entry.
Cool!
I woke this morning to the summer fan gently blowing cool air over me... For the first time in months, temps in the mid-50s, and warmth of bedding insufficient. I begin to believe that autumn is in fact, imminent: The season of layered clothing, of bringing out the warmer bedding, of closing windows and doors... Lately I have been keeping that front deck door closed in the evenings for another reason. Bats. In the sunset sky, I see them dancing... I like bats, I think they are cool... but lately... 34 time 'round the sun
And just now embarking on the 35th... Charlie's birthday is today! Here is part of what he posted on Facebook: 34 today! 34 Journeys 'round the sun. 34 summers, springs, falls and winters. 34 years old, and yet it still feels like I'm just getting started on so many different fronts. It is a difficult thing to remember that destinations and goals are not living. It's the work. All the waiting to get there, the waiting for things to turn out and to happen to or for you; The time you spend... Sign in to see full entry.

Beds and Beddings
The doves are noisy this morning--as noisy as doves ever get! They were adding twigs again yesterday. This morning I am arranging to return the Nectar memory foam mattress I bought almost a year ago. They give a full year to test it out. The company has been easy to deal with, I have no argument with them. The problem is the memory foam that refuses to forget come morning: It is a struggle to get out of it every time! The return process involves sending photos of the attached manufacturer's... Sunday at home
Well, most of the day I spent in Middle-earth, playing the game I used to be addicted to. Now, once or twice a month, I spend a few hours at one go, and that will do me. Today was the day. In the cool of the morning, the door to the deck was open... And guess who's back, and feeling frisky! Yep, the dovelies are back, billing and cooing. Now I will be watching for the day when there is one of them just sitting and sitting and sitting on the nest. That will be brood 5 of the season, though the... Sign in to see full entry.

Wait... It's Friday?
All morning I was sure it was Saturday, then our Taps posted something about it being Friday, over on Facebook, and I realized the truth. So, not tonight but tomorrow we are going out to a Japanese grill place with some friends for dinner. I guess so much has been going on this week, so much got done, it felt like a full week's worth accomplished. One of the things that came down from the mountains is my dad's old record/cassette player, but it has no speakers so I have to get some that will... Sign in to see full entry.

Visiting the past...
It was a quick trip to Estes Park, leaving here around 7:30 yesterday morning, and getting back around 6pm. It takes around two and a half hours to get there, and going back through Denver around 4, it took three hours to get home. There is a lot of construction and there are a lot of drivers these days. As she packs up all and sundry, my sister is feeling overwhelmed, but has no choice but to get it done as soon as she can, to get her house on the market, to make the move-in date in early... Tuesday evening
The sky is a soft yellow in the west, going to a peachy shade where it's showing between the dusky clouds. They are not the massive storm-bringers, though one never can be sure how they may change in the darkness. The sun is down behind the mountains now, and even the highest ones are in shadow. I am sitting out here on the deck watching it go from gold to peach to rose. And to my delight, I have just seen a small bat dancing against the sunset, high over the neighborhood. Wait... it's two bats!... Sign in to see full entry.
