I’ve just been peeling vegetables for tea tonight. As I peeled, my mind coasted in neutral (as it does) and I started to explore the meaning of vegetables. They’ve been round forever, though we have changed them by selective breeding. And like everything in life it is possible to buy old-fashioned... Sign in to see full entry.

Glad about negatives. My place in history.
Again, not much happening. At least I didn't die in the night, so that's a positive for the start of the day. There was a hard frost overnight but not hard enough to freeze the door locks on the car, so that was good. And Number Two son was concerned about me working in the cold. I'm not sure... Laundry and my mad social whirl.
If you read blogs by malcolm you will see he has an advantage over me - he actually gets to interact with people on his way to work. All I get is Number Two son and some traffic. Before I started blogging it didn't bother me but now I need new material every day it's starting to worry me. For a week... Sign in to see full entry.

On the flea market
Business is slow at the moment. Not that I'm complaining; when I started as a gardener I knew the work was going to be seasonal. I have some work to do, including car washing and odd jobs but things are unlikely to start moving until March or April. That's the beauty of the job, I can have time off... Rugby, bonding and an International player discusses ears.
If it's Sunday and it's winter it has to be rugby. I wish the kids would take up cricket instead. In summer I could sit in a deckchair sipping something cool and in winter I could stay in bed. Pleasant as my idea may be it's rugby that they like and so in winter I'm up before it's properly light. I... Sign in to see full entry.

A day at the rugby. We won and I'm glad to be wrong.
Saturday, and time for a wislon family outing. Some people have an endless whirl of parties and premieres, others take their children to see the rugby. Number One son was a ball boy today, I was helping with the car parking. This means that instead of pottering down to the ground for 3pm we had to... Sign in to see full entry.

In which I have another day off work
Yes, I went back to work yesterday and had a day off today. It's not so idle as it seems, there just isn't much work for a jobbing gardener at this time of year. It's nice to have the time off with the kids, but the downside is the lack of money. Today we went to visit the old folk. When the phone... Sign in to see full entry.

I am so happy, though I didn't expect to be.
I went back to work today. It wasn't high on my list of priorities but I have to do something to support my hobbies. The weather was not good. It drizzled, then it snowed for a while, then the wind got up. All in all it was looking like a bad day and getting worse. Fortunately I had some digging to... Sign in to see full entry.

The first Easter egg of Spring
There are certain things that are reliable indicators of the arrival of Spring - the first cuckoo or swallow for instance, or the blooming of the lilacs and laburnums. One of the less reliable indicators is the arrival of adverts for Easter eggs. Tonight we saw the first 2006 advert for Cadbury's... Sign in to see full entry.

There's never time to do it properly but there's always time to do it again
It was my own fault, I picked some leeks in the garden and washed the soil off in the sink. I should know better because I've blocked the sink like that before. This time it was for keeps. Eventually, after a lot of plunging and winding a plumber's spring down the pipe I had to get underneath and... Sign in to see full entry.
