Family, birthdays and tradition. England beat Wales at Twickenham.

Not a bad day, all things considered. It was our first "free" Saturday for several weeks (ie no rugby match to see) so we took the boys to the barber and then went to see my parents. With hair cut neat the boys look handsome devils, even though I say so myself. They were out at a meeting this... Sign in to see full entry.

Is it catching?

Last week I hurt my finger, which is still stiff. This week I had a puncture and tweaked my back, which is sore but near enough back to normal. I have also been recommended a course of dental treatment coming to over £300. Then one of my better customers told me she was moving house. You may already... Sign in to see full entry.

February, and a new year beckons.

I noticed two other gardeners out and about today, so it must not just be me that comes out for February. I may have to advertise this year. I lost two customers at the end of last year. The relatives of one decided to do the garden for her (so there would be more left in the will) and the second... Sign in to see full entry.

Tax, teeth and tomorrow.

The tax form is in. As usual I have promised my wife that I will never be so late with it again. Starting it on 29th January and submitting at 11.11 pm is leaving things a little late. As I write this I fully intend keeping my promise but experience suggests I will have forgotten by tomorrow. Teeth,... Sign in to see full entry.

The problem with January

I now have twenty four and a half hours to lodge my tax form with the Inland Revenue. I meant to do it in the autumn. Then before Christmas. Then after Christmas. It has to be done tomorrow but at ten I have an appointment with my dentist. What a day. It's an important appointment because I... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm feeling smug, in a fatherly sort of way.

First Number One son turned in a decent school report. Then Number Two son was commended on his project on Victorians (mainly concentrating on baby farming, the first railway murder in the UK and hospital conditions in the Crimea). At practice Number Two showed off his new kicking skills and... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday - Part 4

I know that digital photography is far cheaper than using film and that it's good for the kids because they can practice to their hearts content, but there's one drawback I've found. In the old days you used to come home and throw the film canisters in a bag for processing. On a day like today when... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday - Part 3

The rugby boots are finally clean. It's a job that should be done on Thursday at the latest, but we seem to have forgotten it this week. Well, one of us forgot, the other two hoped I wouldn't remember. We have also managed to get a replacement stud for the one that went missing last week. All we... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday - Part 2

After setting up the washing machine single-handed I was a bit of a hero at home (see previous blog) so my wife said she would take us all to breakfast at the local supermarket. The wislons really know how to live, I hear you say admiringly. We may not be spoken of in the same breath as the Windsors... Sign in to see full entry.

New day, new thoughts. A new washing machine.

I keep thinking things during the day but by the time I come to blog I don't have room for most of them. Today being Saturday I am going to start writing in this blog whenever I have a spare moment and see if I actually get more thoughts down. We had our washing machine delivered today, at last. But...
