A depressing day with a happy result.

Chilly today, with a biting wind and a feeling of rain in the air. Given a selection of locations I would not have made an appearance in Retford market place but I had money to collect and no choice of venue. Markets always seem to be built in the windiest places. Retford market is located in the... Sign in to see full entry.

A new beginning.

Today marks a new stage of my life. I am sitting at the computer and for the first time in eighteen years I am not wearing my wedding ring. It feels strange yet comfortable. Although I feel bad about not wearing it I wouldn't put it back on if you paid me. That's a stupid figure of speech isn't it?... Sign in to see full entry.

A walk in Sherwood Forest, followed by a surprise

I started my part of the day with a walk in Sherwood Forest. It's not the greatest forest in the world. At 450 acres it is only a big wood really, though it was once a lot bigger. This isn't a blog about Sherwood Forest, it's about my day, which started with a walk in Sherwood Forest. I enjoyed it,... Sign in to see full entry.

I lose my wallet and think of the future.

We have a new bookshop locally, specialising in end of line stuff. I found three nice hardback history books and a paperback I wanted. Total cost £15.96. At current book prices each of the hardbacks would have cost that so I thought it was a good deal. When I put my hand in my pocket - nothing!... Sign in to see full entry.

A day of two halves

My first match as an assistant coach. It was foggy. Twenty miles from home on the M1 it suddenly cleared and we emerged into a world of bright blue sky and sunlight. Then it got foggy again. By the time we arrived at the host Rugby Club it was bright and clear and we could see all the icy puddles on... Sign in to see full entry.

curator is wondering about opening a pet museum. How about a cake museum?

I could open it in Bakewell, which is already famous for it's Bakewell puddings and has an excellent motorcycle museum (check opening times before travelling). We could combine to form a centre of excellence for all that is unimportant (unless you happen to like inefficient motorcycles or... Sign in to see full entry.

Today I decided to get political. And cynical.

I used the words Bin Laden in the title of my politics blog and discussed terrorism to see what happened. What happened was that I got comments from people, including a couple of political heavyweights, that don't normally leave comments. I also got a comment written in bold type. So the moral of... A discourse on cookies, spellcheckers and serendipity

I just wrote a dull piece about rugby and children. The subjects aren't dull but my treatment was not sparkling, mirroring my day. Time for spellchecking came and the programme's inner critic obviously felt the piece lacked grip because a red notice about cookies expiring and refreshing the page... Sign in to see full entry.

A list, a life and the lure of cake.

Last night, determined not to waste another day, I made a list of things to do. It included emailing, blogging, toilet cleaning, hoovering, dusting and preparing vegetables, but did not include drinking tea, wasting time shopping, eating too much and reading the paper. Although a list has the power... Sign in to see full entry.

Why is lethargy so self-fulfilling?

There isn't much work for a jobbing gardener at the moment so I decided to take time off and do some worthwhile things like writing poetry (which was how I drifted into blogging), get my own garden sorted and cook loads of nutritious meals for the kids. In the last fourteen days I have been in the... Sign in to see full entry.
